Dr. Govind, CEO of National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), has been elected as the Cooperation SIG Chair at the first ever Cooperation SIG Meeting held during the APNIC 39 Conference at Fukuoka, Japan.
The Cooperation SIG is a forum created to discuss broader Internet issues like Public Policy and Internet Governance, related to APNIC community interests, which involve governments, other organizations and other communities. The forum will develop and clarify the APNIC community's position on issues of relevance to the public sector, or on matters for which a community position has been sought.
In the past, Dr. Govind has served as Senior Director, heading the E-Infrastructure & Internet Governance Division, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. As CEO of NIXI, he is responsible for setting up Internet exchange points in India and establishment of the .IN Registry in the country. He spearheaded the setting up and launch of the National Internet Registry for the allocation of IP (IPv4 and IPv6) address space in the country. He has been representing the Government as well as the Technical Community in various diverse forums at national, regional and global fora since 2006. He is currently serving as Consolidated RIR IANA Stewardship Proposal (CRISP) Team Member.
With his rich experience of over three decades, Dr. Govind is expected to greatly help not only in strengthening India's position but also, to bring forth the views of the other developing south-east Asian nations in this forum. This would ensure better focus on information sharing, outreach, capacity building, and other activities that will advance APNIC’s vision for a global, open, stable, and secure Internet.
Dr. Govind looks forward to a greater cooperation between NIXI and AP community and is geared to take up the challenging role of leading “Cooperation SIG”.
