Anand, Gujarat, India, Thursday, May 31, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- GCMMF which markets the popular Amul brand of milk and dairy products has crossed yet another landmark in its long and illustrious history. The results of the apex body of dairy cooperatives in Gujarat, were declared on 31st May 2012, in the 38th Annual General Meeting of GCMMF. The organization symbolizing 'taste of India' achieved another milestone by crossing the US $ 2.5 billion mark. However, this is not the only feat Amul is celebrating. GCMMF paid Rs. 9901 crore to its Member Unions, represented by 32 Lakh farmers. This way maximum share of consumers' money earned by GCMMF is being returned to its member farmers. GCMMF has closed the year 2011-12 with a turnover of Rs. 11668 crores, which is approximately 20% higher than Rs. 9775 crore, the turnover in 2010-11. All over the country and world, where farmers are struggling to make their milk business viable in absence of good returns, the farmers of Gujarat are rejoicing over a 58% increase in their milk prices, over the last three years. Member farmers of GCMMF Ltd received a price of Rs. 468 per Kg Fat for their milk production this year, the highest price being paid to farmers in the country.

The high growth in turn-over is also reflected in the performance of its various mega-brands as the organization has further enhanced its market-share in different product categories in spite of tough competition from local as well as multinational players. GCMMF has done remarkably well in most of the value-added consumer packs. Amul Milk in pouches has shown an impressive value growth of 29%. Sales of Amul Dahi and Amul Buttermilk have grown by a remarkable 41% and 27% in value respectively. Sales in Amul Cheese have shown a consistent and impressive growth of 23%. Dairy whitener, Amulya too has shown a growth of 26% over previous year sales. Amul Ice cream has maintained the position of No. 1 Ice cream brand in India, leaving a wide gap with the nearest competitor.

GCMMF, last year, initiated its largest distribution expansion exercise to extend its reach to smaller towns and semi-urban areas. Apart from the 750 distributors added in dairy and fresh products segment, GCMMF also added 150 super distributors through the implementation of its new 'hub & spoke' model, to reach the smaller markets. Retailing continues to be an important strategic initiative for GCMMF. During the year 2011-12, 965 new Amul Parlours have been added, taking the total strength to 6315, thus reinforcing the wide popularity of this concept. Apart from the 170 parlours at railway stations and 303 parlours operating at various centers of excellence; Amul also has 600 air-conditioned Ice-cream scooping parlours. With this Amul has emerged as the largest single brand retail in the country.

While commenting on the results, Shri Parthibhai G. Bhatol, Chairman, GCMMF informed that this year's performance is even more remarkable, considering the shortage of milk we faced in the beginning two quarters of the year and with this GCMMF has recorded a consistent growth rate of 20% over the last five years. Increased turnover of GCMMF means better returns for its farmer members, for whom this state apex body has been working relentlessly since last 38 years. He also mentioned about the growth plans, as part of which GCMMF will be investing Rs. 3000 crores to set up nine processing units in next four years. "This would enhance our milk handling capacity to 180 lakh litres per day against current capacity of 145 lakh litres per day", said the Chairman. He emphasized that in order to make India a milk surplus country and to pay reasonable returns to the milk producers, Government would need to give policy focus to dairy. Dairy today contributes 26% in agricultural output but still receives only 12% of the public expenditure on agriculture. Further, exempting income tax on dairying, like it is in agriculture, and reduced VAT rates on consumer products which are currently as high as 12.5% would help boost dairy sector and ensure better returns to milk producers and consumers.

Shri Bhatol further informed that GCMMF plans to achieve a turnover of Rs. 14400 crore in the year 2012-13. As the undisputed leader of organized Indian dairy sector, GCMMF will continue to focus on expanding category penetration and enlarging consumer base of the product categories that it operates in.

Hay Group Study Finds Human Resource Professionals Struggling as Strategic Business Partners
Inefficient processes and disconnected disciplines holding HR back

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Human resource professionals are making slow strides in becoming strategic business partners within their organizations, according to new research Next generation HR from Hay Group, the global management consultancy.

Only 34 per cent of those surveyed believe HR is making a significant strategic contribution to their organization; most (60 per cent) positioned themselves somewhere in the middle, confirming that there's still much room for improvement.

The research, which surveyed over 1,400 HR professionals and senior management from around the world, found that the cost cutting and efficiency priorities - introduced to weather the economic storm of recent years - have now evolved to a focus on driving performance and growth. Meanwhile, the emerging HR concerns for the years ahead lie around developing the workforce and ensuring the right people are in the right roles and doing the right work.

Hay Group research highlights that building a workforce for the future is the growing priority:

"As market demands continue to change, organizational success will hinge on HR's ability to connect human capital decisions with business strategy. HR will need to stop clinging to traditional processes and inefficient silos and move toward an integrated approach that links work and people to business results. Such change is critical if HR is to transition to its rightful place of strategic business partner," said Phil Johnson, Hay Group's global head of work measurement.

However, respondents report that there is still significant misalignment across HR disciplines:

-- Only 40 per cent say work measurement and talent management processes are closely aligned
-- Even fewer (36 per cent) say talent management and organizational effectiveness are closely aligned
-- Slightly more than one-third (39 per cent) say they have moved away from traditional silos, but this leaves 61 per cent that haven't - or worse still, are unsure.

The research highlights how HR will lag behind management expectations if a holistic approach to people management - based on a framework of understanding work - is not adopted. Jobs are at the heart of HR processes, therefore it's crucial to analyze work if people resources are to be best deployed to deliver on business objectives.

Despite 76 per cent of respondents saying they use a formal work measurement system, the research suggests that many organizations are not seizing upon the full potential or making the most of their investment.

"Organizations are largely looking at Work measurement systems to align their rewards and grading architecture which is a sub optimal use of such a powerful organization effectiveness mechanism, says Sridhar Ganesan, Practice Leader, Rewards Services, Hay Group, India. Format of the quiz

A total of 72 teams, 18 teams from each zone, have qualified for the TV rounds.

Stage 1 of the television round - The Zonal Qualifier - will have 6 episodes in each zone and therefore 6 winners from each zone.

Stage 2 -The Zonal Finals - will have 8 episodes in all - 2 episodes in each zone therefore 2 winners from each zone; and best lucky loser amongst all zones. A total of 9 teams will qualify for stage 3.

Stage 3- The National Semifinals - will have 3 episodes therefore 3 winners.

Stage 4 -The National Final - best of the three final; features 3 winners of the previous round. Therefore the quiz will have 37 episodes in all with a possibility of the 38th (if the best of three final series goes all the way)

Castell Improves Delivery Times and Safety Rating with New UPS Systems Interlock
Multi-voltage and solenoid-controlled KSUPS+ safeguards uninterruptible power supply systems

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Industrial safety specialist Castell Safety International Ltd ( www.castell.com), currently celebrating its 90th birthday, has launched a new multi-voltage interlock primarily for use with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. The KSUPS+ is a solenoid-controlled trapped key interlock that only permits access to a UPS system once the system has been put into a safe condition.

The KSUPS+ features a number of innovative design improvements, including multi-voltage input. Having a wide voltage input range means that a single device now replaces eight previous devices; the input voltage for the KSUPS+ ranges from 24 V AC or DC to 220 V AC or DC.

As a safety device, the integrity of the KSUPS+ is vital. A monitored solenoid increases the safety performance rating of the KSUPS+, ensuring a higher level of protection for personnel whilst working on UPS systems.

Castell has also reviewed the aesthetics of the KSUPS+. Not only does this improve the look of switchgear cabinets, it also aids operational efficiency and gives a clear indication of where the safety component is located on a panel. Importantly, the KSUPS+ retains the same mounting dimensions as the previous unit and therefore the KSUPS+ can be retrofitted.

Inserting and turning the key operates four pole switch contacts and allows the system to run. The key remains trapped and can only be released when a signal is received by the device and the solenoid is energised. Removing the key switches the contacts to the 'off' state, and the key can then be used to open the access interlock.

Simplicity has been at the forefront of the design of the new KSUPS+, as Paul Marks, Castell's new product development director, explains: "Selecting the old KSUPS meant that customers had to first be sure of the signal voltage for the solenoid, which often led to delays in being able to place the order and selection errors. Removing these issues has been uppermost in our minds when we looked at how to develop the new KSUPS+. The solution we have delivered is multi-voltage. Together with the improved level of safety offered by the solenoid monitoring, and the enhanced look of the unit, we are sure the KSUPS+ will be a very successful product."
