New York, United States, Friday, August 31, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Rapaport International Diamond Conference 2012 held in Mumbai on August 29, 2012 attracted over 300 participants, including many of India's leading diamantaires. The conference was inaugurated by Mumbai's Commissioner of Customs Shri P.M. Saleem.‎

The morning session highlighted India's new regulatory environment, which will require compliance procedures that the industry is not yet ready to perform. The new laws governing transfer pricing, service tax and cross border investments are becoming increasingly burdensome. Martin Rapaport, Chairman of the Rapaport Group, cautioned companies and warned foreign investors that India's government authorities are targeting the diamond sector. Sanjay Kothari, Vice Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), said that the industry is in talks with senior government officials.

Representatives from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and the International Gemological Institute (IGI) presented updates on synthetic diamonds highlighting the difference between natural and synthetic diamonds.

The afternoon session focused on diamond prices and branding. Mr. Rapaport emphasized that diamond prices were beyond the control of the industry and that firms needed to learn how to profit when diamond prices declined. He cautioned India's diamond industry not to buy rough diamonds at unprofitable price levels and to cease speculative diamond manufacturing that was based upon future polished diamond price increases. The decision by De Beers to lower Diamond Trading Company (DTC) rough prices by about 10 percent at this week's sight was well received by attendees.

There was a consensus at the conference that prices for better quality diamonds are weak, while prices for inexpensive lower quality round diamonds may have bottomed out. There is relatively strong demand for fancy shapes, especially cushions.

Panelists stressed that branding is the best way to maintain profit margins. Mehul Choksi, Managing Director of Gitanjali Group, highlighted the need for brand differentiation. Vikram Merchant, Manager of Rio Tinto's India Representative Office, discussed the mining company's efforts to introduce the Nazraana brand that will create downstream consumer demand for diamond jewelry.

Mr. Rapaport also encouraged diamond manufacturers to separate Marange diamonds from other diamonds not subject to U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions.

The US too shows political gridlock in cutting budget deficit and faces an election year that can throw up huge challenges for the next President. The US monetary policy with substantial quantitative easing has tripled the Fed's balance sheet, yet the credit growth has not taken off. While the US corporate profits are healthy, the employment growth has not picked up. The economic policy has in the past often focused on the need to prop up banks, by way of record-low interest rates across the developed world or the recent case of providing unlimited liquidity by the European Central Bank. The long-term impact of these policies will be hard to reverse and are difficult to assess.

Another point of view could be that the financial sector has inhibited growth in other areas of the economy. While no one can argue about the fact that banks and venture-capital groups play a vital role in supporting new companies, it is possible that the extremely high rewards in the financial industry have diverted talented people away from other activities that could have helped rich economies to grow more sustainably?

Many researchers are now referring to the western economies as "extractive economies", with their banking sector and public sector being referred to as "extractive elites". The wealth of the financial industry gives it enormous lobbying power, including as contributors to American presidential campaigns. By being "too big to fail", banks ensured that they had to be rescued in 2008. It is not uncommon for political parties to reward their supporters with jobs and benefits that have been funded by the general taxpayer. Public-sector employees, in the developed part of the world have more generous pension rights than the majority of private-sector workers. Many recipients of social benefits, those dependent on the public purse, in majority, are populations of rich countries. Public-sector unions are also the most vocal in opposing labour-market reforms needed to reduce structural unemployment.

San Francisco, United States, Thursday, August 30, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the performance company, today announced an extension of its strategic partnership with VMware with the introduction of a performance management solution for software-defined networks (SDN) and the ability to provision wide area network (WAN) optimization for virtual data centers (VDC). The planned Riverbed® solutions will ensure the operational viability and performance of VMware-based SDNs and VDCs. Riverbed Cascade® product family support for VXLAN will provide IT organizations with an application-aware network performance management (NPM) solution for SDN performance management. In addition, Riverbed Steelhead® Cloud Edition will be further integrated with VMware vCloud Director® to simplify deployment, configuration, and management of wide area network (WAN) optimization-as-a-service for the VDC. Riverbed also announced that it intends to release additional Cascade products in virtual editions with the introduction of Cascade® Profiler Virtual Edition and Cascade® Gateway Virtual Edition.

Performance Management for Software-Defined Network and the Virtualized Data Center SDNs are one of the corner stones of the VDC. At the heart of this trend in network virtualization is VXLAN overlay technology that enables the quick and dynamic configuration of virtual networks in minutes. By creating virtual networks on demand, which can span physical boundaries, enterprises can optimize computing and storage capacity for mission-critical applications. With virtual overlay networks, traffic is encapsulated in tunnels across the physical network, which creates blind spots for the understanding and troubleshooting of performance issues.

Riverbed and VMware are collaborating in the development of a new VXLAN-aware Internet Protocol Flow Information Export (IPFIX) format. This functionality would enable network and application performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and reporting, allowing organizations to embrace SDNs without sacrificing operational control.

The Riverbed Cascade product family is an application-aware NPM solution to leverage this performance information about overlay network and UDP-encapsulated traffic to provide comprehensive and unified visibility across the WAN, LAN, virtual overlay networks and data centers in the cloud. Access to this information enables network and virtualization teams to find and fix network and application performance problems, regardless of the architecture - traditional, server virtualized, or fully virtualized with SDNs. The technology preview will showcase the delivery of local area networks (LAN) performance in distributed VMware View environments, including Branch Office Desktop (BOD) and Business Process Desktop (BPD) solutions, while preserving control in the data center. The showcase combines Riverbed® GraniteT edge virtual server infrastructure (edge-VSI) with VMware View. This industry first builds on the August 2011 announcement to partner with Teradici to better address IT infrastructure performance problems, including virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments.

Inherent performance challenges with the wide area network (WAN), including distance, latency, limited and costly bandwidth, and unforeseeable outages, can result in a poor experience for the user of interactive applications and other IT services. Even with sufficient bandwidth, the challenges of too much latency or outages over the WAN can lead to poor application performance and the inability to smoothly deliver virtual services at remote locations.

VMware and Riverbed will showcase a combined solution that significantly reduces the effect of WAN latency, dramatically reducing the need for high-cost bandwidth and ensuring continuous operations in the event of a WAN outage. Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Opteamix LLC., (www.opteamix.com) a Denver based IT Services company announced today that it has been certified for ISO 27001:2005(International standard for an information security management system (ISMS)) from the ISO accredited certification body BSI. Opteamix started its India operations in June by forging a partnership with Tekizen private limited.

ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) is the world's largest developer and publisher of international standards and ISO 27001 is the international standard for information security management system (ISMS). The certification means that a Company has been independently certified and awarded the internationally recognized highest information security standard.

The assessment for the certification was conducted by BSI group (A leading global provider of standards, management systems, business improvement and regulatory approval information) and the auditing team was led by Ravindra, General Manager- IT, ITES Certifications. The standard has been awarded to Opteamix following a rigorous two step auditing process and eight months of preparation. The company has put various policies and procedures in place, which cover all information, assets and employees. This enables Opteamix to manage confidential and sensitive corporate information that it is available, confidential and has its integrity intact.
