Special Olympics Bharat in partnership with WWE and NDMC organized the National Athletics Championship from March 12-15, 2014 at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. Participating were around 650 Athletes, 150 Coaches and 150 Volunteers from 26 States. The Opening Ceremony took place at the Nehru stadium on March 13th at 11:30 AM with the Chief Guest Mr. Jalaj Srivastava, Chairman, NDMC. Prior to the Ceremony, a Torch run initiated from the NDMC (New Delhi Municipal Corporation) Head Office at the Parliament Street at 9 AM, with Mr. Jalaj Srivastava, Chairman, NDMC addressing the participants, moving towards the Central Park, New Delhi.
All guests at the Opening Ceremony were welcomed by Mr. Kartikay Saini, Chairman Scottish High International school and Advisory Trustee Special Olympics Bharat.
The Assistant Coaches Sanjay Seth and Patrick (both with mild intellectual disabilities) took the Special Olympics Athlete’s Oath:
"Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”
Air Marshal (Retd) Denzil Keelor, Chairman, Special Olympics Bharat, and the Chief Guest addressed the audience. The other esteemed guests present at the event were Mr. Nikhil Chopra, ex-Cricketer and Mr. Carl Sequeira from WWE.
A cultural program performed by groups of children with and without disabilities was followed by a Taekwondo demo cum interactive session, lead by Grandmaster Lee. During the rest of the day Preliminary round assessment of athletes in various Track and Field events were conducted.
March 14 and 15 will hold competitions across all the events and medal distributions:

The Healthy Athlete Program and Athlete Leadership Program were the non-sport events that were conducted concurrently on March 13, 2014. The Healthy Athlete Program covered screenings in Funfitness and Health promotion of all the participating Athletes.
Athletics is one of the disciplines in which the Indian delegation will participate at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2015 to be held in Los Angeles. National Championships in various summer sport disciplines have been held in different locations in India. The medalists at these Championships are selected as probables for that particular sport for the World Summer Games.
