A groundbreaking workshop on improving library systems & development and e- learning was conducted by Agricultural Innovation Partnership (AIP) at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on 5th and 6th February, 2014. The two-day workshop was attended by senior librarians from ten agricultural universities and senior faculty members from Banaras Hindu University, Cornell University and Sathguru Management Consultants Pvt Ltd. Conducted by the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU and held under the aegis of the Agricultural Innovation Partnership (AIP) project, the workshop helped the participants understand and get acquainted on research support services in the Agriculture & Life Sciences Library and e-learning.
Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the five-year project comprises a consortium of Indian and US land-grant universities (Cornell, Illinois, Georgia, The Ohio State, Tuskegee, and University of California, Davis) and private sector partners that include John Deere, Tata Chemicals Ltd, and Sathguru Management Consultants Pvt. Ltd. With the objective of bringing in holistic transformation in Indian agriculture, AIP plans to enhance teaching capabilities of Indian universities on how best to deliver course materials, maximize student learning, and develop strategies to maximize knowledge gain by students and teachers to enhance farm-level output.
The primary focus of this workshop was on ways to improve library science development and in fostering e- learning resources in Indian Agricultural Universities. “Today, we are living in a digital age where advances in technology have brought tremendous innovations. AIP has taken significant steps and contributed immensely towards the development of digital repositories and skills of faculty and students in the field of library science and e- learning resources”, said Dr. Ramasamy, AIP Project Coordinator
Key participants at the inaugural session of the two-day workshop series included Dr Bahiru Duguma, Director, Office of Food Security, USAID, Dr. Ramasamy, AIP Project Coordinator, Dr Ravi Pratap Singh, Director, IAS, BHU and Dr Mary Ochs, Director, Albert R Mann Library, Cornell University.
Given their expertise, AIP partner institutes will take the lead in addressing these identified areas through targeted faculty capacity-building programs, on-the-field research and mentor support and engaged student participation.
