Ricoh Supports to Improve Educational Infrastructure
Ricoh's CSR initiative, in collaboration with Save the Children, will help chosen government schools to improve educational infrastructure

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Tuesday, April 02, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- Representatives of Ricoh Co., Ltd., Ricoh India Limited and Save the Children met the Municipal Commissioner of New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) with a proposal to donate Ricoh's "Ultra Short Throw Projectors (Projector with USB port, networkable capable and Wi-Fi)" to NDMC schools to ensure greater student participation and information retention, while helping children, teachers and local communities enhance their abilities and boost the educational standards.

In support of the digitalization of the Government-aided schools by the Education Department of India, Ricoh and Save the Children will jointly help those identified schools, nominated by NDMC to provide the projectors. Apart from the projectors, Ricoh and Save the Children will plan and develop the content, which is equally important to ensure these government schools and students benefit from the program.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tetsuya Takano, Ricoh India's Managing Director and CEO, said: "Ricoh has always believed in supporting children, who are our next-generation leaders. Many children in India fail to complete their primary education due to a variety of factors. These include inadequate awareness about the importance of education, low quality educational services and lack of necessary infrastructure and supplies. In this context, we believe Ricoh's projectors would be most beneficial to the few NDMC schools where they are to be installed."

As part of its CSR initiatives, Ricoh is fully committed in solving social problems via its core business in order to contribute towards the development of a sustainable society. With this in mind, in collaboration with Save the Children, Ricoh has been supporting initiatives that benefit children's education in India, and thereby facilitate national development, since the country has the largest number of children worldwide who either cannot attend school or do not finish primary education due to various financial and infrastructure problems.

"Save the Children is calling for a systemic change in our education system and it understands the importance of making education more exciting and relevant for today's school children," says Thomas Chandy, Save the Children India's CEO, adding, "With the support of Ricoh, we will be able to develop content that is useful for the students and also present it to them in a manner that utilizes the technological advances whose inclusion we feel is necessary to modernize education in India. Such an initiative is critical in the present scenario where educational infrastructure urgently requires to be strengthened."

Since 2011, Ricoh along with Save the Children has been supporting needy schools in the districts of Medak located in Andhra Pradesh by donating Digital Duplicators. Ricoh's Digital Duplicators are extremely effective for a range of purposes such as printing learning materials, Exam sheets, communicating with local communities, and sharing information among teachers and schools as well as government agencies to enhance their capabilities to build an educational network. The Digital Duplicators has not only helped recipient schools save immense amounts of time, money and resources, but also benefitted students, helping them learn more by providing a wider range of study materials.
