National Australia Bank Appoints Spiro Pappas as Chief Executive Officer, Asia
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- National Australia Bank (NAB) today announced the appointment of Mr. Spiro Pappas as Chief Executive Officer, Asia, responsible for accelerating the growth of the Bank's business in Asia.
Mr. Pappas will be responsible for managing NAB's operations in Asia and strengthening the franchise in close coordination with the Bank's businesses in Australia and New Zealand.
NAB is one of Australia's major banks with an integrated wealth management business. As the country's largest business bank1 , the Bank supports customers with financial, investment and banking needs spanning Asia, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
NAB Group CEO Mr. Cameron Clyne said he is delighted with the appointment of Mr. Pappas who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role.

NAB first established its presence in Asia through a representative office in Tokyo in 1969. Today, it has branches in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka (sub-branch) and Mumbai, as well as representative offices in Beijing and Jakarta.
NAB offers a full suite of banking and financial services ranging from personal and private banking, investment advisory, to business and institutional banking. The strength of its business banking franchise in Australia also gives the Bank market-leading expertise and insights into the natural resources, energy, food and agriculture as well as health sectors.
Mr. Pappas joined NAB in Australia in 2009 as the Head of the Institutional Bank, with global responsibility covering its Large Corporates, Multi-Nationals, the Commercial Real Estate, Government and Education sectors and Acquisition Finance and Advisory businesses.
Prior to joining NAB, Mr. Pappas spent over 13 years internationally in London and New York, including 11 years with ABN AMRO Bank where he managed a number of global businesses including Debt Capital Markets, Client Coverage for Banks and Non-Bank Financial Institutions and Corporate Finance and Advisory. He also served as part of the global management team for Credit Markets, Traded Markets and Financial Institutions and Portfolio Management. Prior to ABN AMRO, Mr. Pappas worked for Deutsche Bank in Sydney, New York and London.
In addition, NAB's Global Head of Consumers Sectors, Mr. David Thorn, will relocate from Sydney to Hong Kong in December 2012. Mr. Thorn is the first global industry sector head in NAB's Institutional Banking division to be located in Asia, signalling a further step in NAB's strategic approach to supporting the Bank's clients in the Asian region. Mr. Thorn will play a key role in supporting NAB's business customers, particularly in food and beverage production and related agricultural sectors, with growth opportunities in the Asian region. Mr. Thorn will also be pivotal in ensuring that NAB's Asian clients continue to grow their trade and investment flows with Australian and New Zealand businesses. Mr. Thorn has over 25 years' banking experience and has been leading NAB's Consumer Sectors team for approximately seven years.
