Real Image Expands Partnership with Barco to Continue Digital Cinema Conversion in India

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Tuesday, May 08, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Real Image Media Technologies, India's leading provider of film, video, and audio technology, recently confirmed an order for 300 DCI-compliant Barco projectors worth $10 million. Included in the offering for the Indian market is a special package for 3D screenings that uses dual DP2K-12C digital cinema projectors to substantially enhance the brightness for 3D movie screenings. Real Image has already equipped more than 140 screens with Barco projectors and Real Image Qube XP-D digital cinema servers. Through this partnership, Barco further strengthens its position as the leading DCI-compliant projector brand in India.

As one of India's major players in cinema technology, Real Image offers cinemas an end-to-end digital solution that combines its Qube Digital cinema server with a Barco digital cinema projector. When the transition from analogue to digital kicked off in India, about seven years ago, Real Image was the first to deploy DCI digital cinema. It chose to partner with Barco for DCI deployments, on account of its superior Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and market leadership in the digital domain. Moreover, the compact dual DLP projector will deliver a much higher brightness level for 3D movie screenings than any other single projector using 3D equipment can provide.

Market leadership

"It was clear to us, upon completion of our earliest deployments, that Barco projectors ensure the lowest TCO and, thanks to their modular design, are also easy to maintain. These are major benefits of the Barco technology. On top of that, Real Image, like Barco, understands product support like no other and has a long-term vision focused on technology sustainability. It seemed only logical to expand our relationship," said Arvind Rangnathan, CEO of Real Image. "It has been a pleasure for us to work with Barco. They perfectly combine world-class products with outstanding support. By offering our Qube server together with Barco projectors as a cutting-edge, all-in-one solution, we can offer India's theaters the very best quality and flexibility available in today's market."

Strengthens market foothold

For Barco, the contract win is an ideal opportunity to further strengthen its foothold in the Indian digital cinema market. "I am proud that Real Image chose to team up with Barco and strengthen our relationship," confirmed Abel Garamhegyi, Vice-President Growth Markets EMEAI & Managing Director for India at Barco. "Just like Barco, Real Image is committed to technological innovation and high-quality products. We look forward to continuing our partnership as we strive to offer Indian moviegoers the ultimate in digital cinema."
