robo.in, a venture of IIT Bombay Alumnus, Launches ROBOCAMP in New Delhi

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Friday, June 05, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- - A summer camp in the field of Educational Robotics

- Hands on exposure to robot programming for kids between 11 to 18 years

robo.in, a venture of Thinklabs, founded by a group of IIT Bombay alumnus, today announced the launch of RoboCAMP, a summer camp which aims to offer a wholesome robotic learning system. RoboCAMP will help kids learn science and technology in a practical and enjoyable manner. Camp is currently running at The Heritage School, D-2 Vasant Kunj in South Delhi. Children can register for the camp by visiting www.robo.in. Participation details can be gathered from Manas - 9818268315 and Sumer - 9818268305 or by email to info@robo.in

RoboCAMP is targeted for students in the age group of 11 to18 years. In this 6 day camp, children will spend 4 hours every day learning to implement concepts of science and mathematics in a practical way. Further it will also provide hands on exposure to robot programming, enhance problem solving skills and help logic development. Robotics, being a multi-disciplinary field, gives the students the advantage of working on all their favourite technical topics on a common platform. The workshops aim at fueling the passion for robotics among children and get them closer to technology.

RoboCAMP program has also been recognized and certified by Indian Innovators Association (IIA).

The camp in Delhi will also witness the launch of i-PITARA - a highly sophisticated robotic kit packed with more than 50 components including a microcontroller chip, multiple sensors and mechanical building blocks. This international standard kit has been developed after two years of extensive research at R&D centre in IIT Bombay involving more than 300 students, faculty and experts. Being an indigenously developed product, it will be more easily accessible to students as compared to the highly priced international brands. iPitara is easily connectable to a computer and comes with a versatile software interface, Cimple. Cimple, which literally means C made simple, is a C based robot instruction language developed by robo.in to enable kids to make autonomous robot behaviours. Using a visual programming interface, children can create a robot program by simply connecting pictures in a logical sequence. This helps them to learn the nuances of logic building, programming practices as well as problem solving approaches. Commenting on this robotic kit, Fred Rose, Director Technology and Strategy for Honeywell, said "robo.in has developed a product, a low cost robotics platform and associated training class that has filled a big need in India". robo.in plans make an international release of iPitara at a very affordable price of Rs. 9900/- only.

The good news for the children of Delhi is that, they would learn to program the iPitara in the RoboCAMP summer camps and at the end of the camp would take it home along with the Cimple software.

Talking about the importance of Robotics at the school level, Gagan Goyal, Founder & Director, robo.in, said "Robo.in's endeavour is to increase awareness, exposure and provide appropriate tools for young minds. With 2 years of exhaustive research at our R&D center in IIT Bombay we have come up with a robotic kit and a training program which will unleash the artist, scientist and the technologist inside a child." He added "Through Robotics, children understand the relationship between Mathematics and Science and this can prove extremely beneficial for them if they choose a career in engineering or scientific and technical research".
