India Home Health Care (IHHC) is observing World Breastfeeding Week 2016 starting August 1 - 7 August 2016 across its centres in India. The weeklong activity will include raising awareness about Breastfeeding, its importance and various challenges that new mothers face.

In line with this year’s “World Breastfeeding Week 2016 theme”, which is about how breastfeeding is a key element in getting us to think about how to value our well-being from the start of life, how to respect each other and care for the world we share, India Home Health Care (IHHC) is looking to address concerns over Breast Feeding in Public places which can capture and bring out the powerful and deep relationship between the mother and the baby and reinforce this life enabling act in a beautiful manner.

“Feeding in public should be a regular way of life; it is about taking care of a hungry baby; the mother should feel no social stigma attached to this divine gesture. Nursing mothers need not be limited to their house and should be encouraged to step out with their child and if the need arises should be proud and happy to feed her baby whenever hunger strikes the child,” says Dr. Anitha Arockiasamy, President, IHHC.

It is time we looked at creating safe and hygienic spots in public for lactating mothers and strive to remove any taboo or stigma attached to this life sustaining act. Both the Government and private entities should look at creating safe zones in parks, bus stops, malls or other public places that can be used by lactating mothers.

IHHC offers assistance and support to new and lactating mothers which has become essential in India with the growing single family systems and where the personal home care to new mothers and babies is critical in the initial 3 to 6 months-time.

Their special New Mothers care package covers premature or low birth weight babies, babies with underlying medical condition. The home nurse also helps with training and tips including chores like change, feed, dress and bathe the baby safely.
