Donica Aviation Engineering, a leading Chinese in-flight entertainment (IFE) solution provider and Kiora, a content distribution platform provider for low bandwidth domains, today announced a joint solution to deliver a complete hardware and software platform for wireless In-Flight Entertainment (IFE). Wireless IFE opens the floodgates to a new BYOD (bring your own device) experience for passengers that lowers the airlines set up costs when compared to embedded systems, and creates alternate revenue streams for airlines.
The joint solution provides Donica’s Wireless AVOD System with Kiora’s KIVE content distribution platform that is designed to work with no connectivity. The turnkey hardware and software offering makes the solution suitable and quickly deployable for airlines of any size. With it, passengers can access movies, news, e-books and games from the airline’s entertainment package and play it on their own devices.
“We selected Kiora’s content distribution platform because it is widely deployed and is specifically designed for captive audience environments like in-cabin,” said Justin Min, CEO of Donica. “Kiora’s solution also supports Marlin DRM, the leading Digital Rights Management technology in China. The combined solution with Donica will provide our customers the best-of-breed hardware and software components that are optimized to drive down deployment costs for a wireless in-flight entertainment system.”
“Donica has a great track record of innovating IFE systems, and is one of the leading IFE manufacturer in China,” said Ganesh Janyavula, Vice President of Engineering, Kiora. “Kiora’s platform offering with integrated Marlin DRM and Donica’s In-Flight wireless system will provide a secure and dynamic content distribution system for airline passengers.
Marlin DRM is an open, standards-based multi-format content protection technology. It has been widely adopted for IPTV and OTT initiatives across Europe and Japan and is the leading DRM in China.
