MeraCareerGuide, an online career counselling portal, has rebranded itself to CareerGuide.Com. The new format will help the students seeking career advice in receiving their answers instantly.
The reason behind the modification was to drop the Hindi word as it could pose a hindrance in gaining accessibility into segments where using Hinglish was not a common practice. The change aims to take CareerGuide.Com global, and to organise career counselling space worldwide.
Posing a career-related question on CareerGuide.Com is quick and is easy. The answers reach the concerned students instantly. Nothing really exists in career and education space. That’s a common problem for sure, especially with potentially expensive career and educational decisions.
A student faces several education and career related dilemma every day. The information available on the web is quite general,” explains Surabhi Dewra. “It may not be specific to your requirement and it’s not right when you need it”
Here’s how it works:
Imagine you have a question regarding careers in web design. You log on to CareerGuide.Com and select the category of web design. You are then connected to a suitable career expert. You then approach the expert with your questions over phone.
Post the conversation, you hear your recordings and rate the counsellor via a five star rating system (similar to the Uber system).
CareerGuide.Com charges a fee of Rs.999 for a 45-minute session. This also includes a psychometric career test. The student uses the allocated 45 minutes in one session or multiple sessions. The fee amount ensures that the counselling is affordable to students.
CareerGuide.Com has 206 career counsellors from 38 different locations on board. Surabhi’s team has vetted the profiles of these counsellors.
The model is designed to erase geographic boundaries. A student from the North East gets guidance in his courses from a counsellor based in Bangalore, or a student studying in Rajasthan gets his doubts clarified from a counsellor in Mumbai.
The portal’s target audience is a student between 13 and 22 years of age.
CareerGuide.Com is looking to expand its marketplace for career experts from 200+ to 1000 career experts. The on-boarding process for a career expert includes a screening process during which the counsellor’s work experience is validated. Along the process, the expert’s command over written and spoken communication expertise is also evaluated. Each career expert is provided with a dashboard to allow him to login to be able to initiate answering the queries the students have. The questioning and answering is conducted over the phone.
Technology helps in maintaining logs and metrics while also ensuring availability of career experts. Career experts engage themselves on a revenue sharing model with CareerGuide.Com and earn considerable amount of additional income using the Career Guide platform.
The start-up has already raised one round of funding from investors namely Ronnie Screwvala, founder of UTV; Vishal Gondal, founder of Indiagames; and Goqii & Rajesh Tekriwal based in Hong Kong.
Hundreds of students log on to CareerGuide.Com every day to make some smart decision post the guidance from experts available on the platform. The students have saved a considerable amount of money by not opting for a wrong course/college/subject. Foremost of all, they have saved themselves of wasting their time and have prevented themselves of agony, frustration and loss that arises from walking the wrong path.
