People Matters Releases State of the CHRO 2015 Study

Gurgaon, Haryana, India

Aimed at exploring and uncovering the trends emerging and shaping the CHRO function, People Matters, a leading knowledge and media platform in the Human Resources, has published the first edition of its annual research-based study on the State of the CHRO 2015, which “will be an ongoing effort and contribution to our community year-on-year,” according to Ester Martinez, CEO/Editor-in-Chief of People Matters.

273 CHROs out of 300 other participants including CEOs, Business Leaders, HR Service Providers and Headhunters participated in both quantitative and qualitative data collection. The survey uncovered the trends that influence the state of the CHRO in India, the three main being the: (1) widening gap between the CEOs expectations and what the CHROs have to offer; (2) CHROs lack of exposure to business hints; (3) CHROs struggle with aligning the HR strategy with business strategy.

The survey exposed that 66% of CHROs have served purely HR functions with little or no experience in revenue generating role; only 10% have led sales role; 37% of CHROs never sought non-HR functions, and 36% of the CHROs do not see non-HR functions as necessary part of their HR career goals. It is significant to see that CHROs average compensation in large organizations saw an increase by 78% in the last 5 years but the compensation growth in smaller organization has only been 30%.

Challenges faced by the CHROs today are also highlighted through the research. 68% of CHROs feel that architecting the right culture that creates engagement is a challenge; 61% feels that aligning the HR strategy to the company strategy is a major area to deal with; and the other 60% feels that keeping pace with the changing business dynamics is a constant challenge.
