On the eve of Cancer Survivors Day being on the first Sunday of June every year, HCG – The Specialist in Cancer Care along with Pink Hope – The Cancer Support Group initiated a unique platform called the Self V Film Festival, a one-of-a-kind celebration for cancer survivors to celebrate Survivors Day.
Taking it one step ahead from last year’s Self V – The survivors Story, this year Cancer survivors would need to take a self-video of up to 60 seconds duration, capturing the story of their struggle and conquest over cancer. By uploading it on facebook.com/hcghospitals, these stories become an ideal encouragement of hope for many patients fighting cancer and break the stigma attached to the disease. These videos will be judged by a jury from the film fraternity, and the best ones will be selected for the Self V – Film Festival, which will be showcased across theatres in Bangalore.
The contest will run for a period of 45 days and the best Self V videos will not only make to the Film Festival but also win awards ranging from Four-Wheel Drive, LED TV, Holidays in Bangkok and Goa and other exciting merchandises like designer clothes and smart phones.
Commenting at the initiative, Ms. RuchiDilbagi – Cancer Survivor said,” It’s a day of hope and triumph for all the survivors. Fighting cancer is a battle and one needs to be positive. I thrived after my problems and today I’m a winner, celebrating cancer survivor’s day. Awareness is the key, more survivors speak about the disease, it instills confidence in thousands of cancer patients, that there is a life after cancer and it can be managed.”
Present at the conference, Dr. Khilara – Radiation Oncologist said, “It is important to celebrate this day because we need to spread awareness about the disease and that it is curable. Thus this is a perfect opportunity for all survivors not only to celebrate with their loved ones but also to share their stories of hope to others and giving them strength.”
Also commenting at the initiative, Mr. Dinesh Madhavan – Director – Healthcare Services said, “These stories of hope and triumph will install confidence to those who are battling cancers, the thought of creating the survivor self v film festival is to showcase the stories of the real heroes and the
positivity that it installs & will provide the ray of hope that cancer can be conquered".
Through this initiative the main aim of HCG and Pink Hope Support Group was to build awareness for patients fighting cancer and encourage other cancer survivors to share their survival stories. For more information on Self V log onto: www.selfv.in
