Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB) celebrated seven successful years of airport operation with the second edition of the Pinnacle Awards – a platform created to recognize excellence and collaboration within the airport community. The award ceremony was presided over by Mr. G V Sanjay Reddy, MD of BIAL and attended by the senior management of the Airport, partners and concessionairs here in Bengaluru recently. KIAB has clocked 15.4 million passengers in FY 2014-15 and has now established itself as South India’s busiest and India’s third largest airport. Indigo was awarded the Domestic Airline of the year while Emirates was awarded the International Airline of the Year. Indigo and Emirates also won the Flyer’s favorite airline in the Domestic and International category. This year a new award titled “Best Groomed Department” solely based on passenger survey was introduced and was awarded to CISF. (Refer annexure for other award listings).

This year Pinnacle Awards witnessed over 100 entries for the submission-based awards – a bouquet of stories of innovation, sustainable practices, star performers and crossing boundaries. The overwhelming level of participation and engagement showcases the commitment each one of our concessionaires bring to work each day, individually and as teams. I am proud to see the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru excel across verticals,” said Mr G V Sanjay Reddy, Managing Director, Bangalore International Airport Limited.
Pinnacle 2015 saw over 100 submissions and was judged by a panel of esteemed national and international industry professionals that included Patti Chau, Regional Director, ACI Asia Pacific, B.S Nagesh, Customer Care Associate, Vice Chairman & Non-Executive Director, Shoppers Stop, Prof. Rishikesha Krishnan, Director IIM Indore and Mr. S Raghupathy, Executive Director, CII-Godrej.

The Awards are divided into two subsets; data-based awards, which are numerical driven and submission-based awards, which are driven by the quality of the citations provided by the contenders. The awards are based on the various service offering across airlines, commercial and cargo & aviation services.
Pinnacle Awards is aimed at acknowledging and awarding star performances amongst the various airport stakeholders in several capacities, the award aims to perpetuate a culture of competition and excellence amongst all stakeholders at the airport, which eventually would have a significant impact on the performance of the airport as a whole.

Private promoters hold 74% (GVK 43%, Siemens Projects Ventures – 26% and Flughafen Zurich AG – 5%) stake in BIAL while the government holds the remaining 26% (Karnataka State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited – 13%, Airport Authority of India – 13%).
