International SOS, the world’s leading medical and travel security services company, and Control Risks, the world’s leading global business risk consultancy, have deployed a joint medical and security team to Kathmandu to assist clients on the ground in the wake of the Nepal earthquake.
Grant Strudwick, Regional Security Director, Asia-Pacific, International SOS and Control Risks says: “We are working 24/7 to help our clients—including multinational corporates, NGOs and educational institutions with medical and evacuation support. We can confirm shortages of food and medical supplies in Kathmandu. Hospitals are overstretched and there is a severe strain on transportation and accommodations due to structural damage in the buildings and the continued aftershocks.”
International SOS advises to defer all travel to Nepal. Non-essential staff should consider leaving the country, when possible. Travel outside the Kathmandu valley should be by air only. The status of intercity roads is generally impassable due to debris, damaged roads, landslides and avalanches as well as adverse weather. All directives issued by emergency services personnel, especially with regard to shelter and evacuations, should be followed.
For questions or concerns about developments in Nepal, one of the 27 International SOS Assistance Centres can be contacted. Detailed and regularly updated travel security information is available at our member zone, https://www.internationalsos.com/member-zone and via the International SOS Assistance App, https://www.internationalsos.com/assistance-app.
