Stem Cell Awareness Day is being observed on 10th of April at Gateway Hotel on the Residency Road, followed by a press conference. Aimed at educating masses about stem cells and their importance, this is also aimed at breaking certain myths that are prevalent among the public about stem cells. People from all walks of life, including colleges and schools would benefit much from visiting this awareness program. The speakers will answer questions ranging from medical benefit of stem cell to career opportunities in the stem cell world. The program is scheduled between 11 am to 2 pm.
Stem cells hold great promise and potential for both basic sciences and medicine. Stem cells could be a major branch of treatment modalities and eventually may become a standard of care and practice in a few years. India is already being seen as the world’s low cost pharmacy hub as far as conventional therapies are concerned and the recent economic and epidemiological changes present a lucrative opportunity for the Indian biotechnology industry to replicate this success in the field of novel and innovative healthcare therapies like stem cells.
In this context ISCT in partnership with Stempeutics Research, School of Regenerative Medicine- Manipal University (SORM) International Society for Cellular Therapy, (ISCT) - Manipal Hospital, BCIC, and IACC, is observing Friday, April 10th, 2015, as the 1st Stem Cell Awareness Day in India, which brings together organizations and individuals around the world working to ensure that we realize the benefits of one of the most promising fields of science of our time. The day is a unique global opportunity to foster greater understanding about stem cell research and the range of potential applications for disease and injury. This event will be conducted in Bangalore this year, and in the years to come, this program will gain significance in the events calendar, and Stempeutics will further endorse its role as a thought leader. Notable medical practitioners, scientists, regulators such as Shri Raghurama Bhandari, Drug Controller – Karnataka, Dr. H S Ballal, Medical Director – Manipal Hospital, Prof . Seshagiri - IISC, Manohar – MD Stempeutics Research, Dr. Bhonde – Dean SORM – Manipal University, Mayur Abhay – CEO – Lifecell, Dr. Anish – VP- ISCT are expected to speak during the event.
