The latest stage of the 2015 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup, one of the sport’s largest and most exciting amateur tournaments, took place at Classic Golf & Country Club in Delhi, India, on Saturday March 28th.
The fifth of 66 qualifiers for the global event, which has expanded rapidly since the inaugural tournament in 2013, featured 101 players, all personally-invited guests of Turkish Airlines.
Sanjay Setia and Shekhar Agrawal finished first in their respective categories in the individual stableford competition and therefore progress to the Grand Final in Antalya, Turkey, this October. Raj Kumar, meanwhile, won the nearest-the-pin prize and Rudratej Singh scored the lowest gross of the day.
“We would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup qualifier in Delhi,” said Ozer Guler, General Manager for Turkish Airlines Delhi. “It was another successful edition and well played to our winners, Sanjay and Shekhar - we look forward to seeing you in Antalya in October.”
The first qualifier took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, with events also taking place in Cape Town, Doha and Mumbai in March before visiting Delhi. Tournaments will continue to take place across the globe, with Kuwait, Karachi, Dubai, Los Angeles, Seoul and Beijing amongst the next events on the schedule.
The overall winners of the Grand Final will progress to play in the 2015 Turkish Airlines Open pro-am, while all finalists are to enjoy a seven-night stay in an all-inclusive hotel.
Turkish Airlines, which was recently voted Europe’s best airline for the fourth consecutive year (2014), launched the World Golf Cup in 2013, featuring 12 qualifying events.
China’s Han Liang proved victorious and his prize was partnering world number one and 14-time major champion Tiger Woods in the Turkish Airlines Open pro-am.
After that initial success, there was a rapid expansion to include 50 events worldwide last year.
