Transgenders Spreads Awareness on Breast Cancer

Bangalore, Karnataka, India

With October being the Breast Cancer awareness month, HCG launched their unique initiative called “Love your Breasts or Lose your Breasts” along with the transgender community of Bangalore at a press conference.

Breast cancer awareness month is an annual international health campaign observed every October to increase awareness of the disease and its prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. According to research 1 out of 8 women are at the risk of developing breast cancer. Breast cancer is no longer a disease to be scared of. If detected on time, a life can be saved.

In order to spread the awareness about breast cancer HCG has been consistently creating campaigns which has won them awards from the World Record to Limca Records.

This year the initiative involves the transgender community who have been portrayed as protagonists in order to spread the awareness on breast cancer. Apart from that, there will pink autos running for a day across MG Road via Anil Kumble circle to show the support on the initiative.

Dr. B.S Ajai Kumar – Chairman - HCG Group said, "Cancer patients and transgenders, both need to come into mainstream. That’s one of the reason we have initiated this campaign with the transgenders. They fight hard to become who they are and are also highly prone to cancer. We are focusing the extent the transgender community would go to achieve feminity and what they would like to communicate to those who are born feminine.”

Present at the conference, Reshma, a transgender said, “We would go to any extent to be feminine, as we are less fortunate than those who are blessed with breasts. Breast Cancer is a deadly disease and we would like to spread this awareness message to all the women who are blessed with their feminity and they should take care of themselves with regular checkups which now can be done with HCG Breast Cancer app.”

Also present at the conference, Dr. Nalini Rao said, “Cancer is a great equalizer, it knows no caste or creed or sex. Transgenders are also at risks of breast cancer and need to undergo regular self-examination. We are glad to know quite a few of them have stepped up, undergone the examination and also have initiated a campaign to spread awareness on breast cancer.”

During the press conference, HCG also launched the HCG Breast Cancer App, a mobile application. This app gives an in-depth analysis on breast cancer, self-examination, and can help an individual with the regular checkups.
