Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd, The Specialist in Cancer Care, on World Cancer Day, to create awareness on myths about cancer and the ill effects of tobacco, picked up one of the strongest factors which leads to cancer in India and created an interactive event - “Give Cancer a Knock Out Punch” by creating structure of "Cigarette" on a punching bag, where the participants punched the bag and pledged to create awareness on ill effects on tobacco consumption. More than 110 people participated in the event. In India, according to PBCR/ICMR Study 2013, nearly 30 % of new cancers are related to tobacco consumption.
The event was organized in association with various malls and corporate across the city, to educate the public on harmful effects of tobacco.
Dr. Jagannath Dixit, Consultant, Surgical Oncologist, HCG, said, “There has been a drastic increase in cancers of the lung, head & neck, due to increased consumption of tobacco & related products. This is seriously affecting our younger generation and including women. The fiber intake has reduced and there is more of fat consumption, lack of physical activities and sedentary lifestyle in youngsters. With awareness and making life style changes, we can bring down the incidence to tobacco related cancers.”
