Immediately after Seacom Marine College announced the commencement of ETO course, it received thousands of applications in a short span of three weeks. After the initial screening and cut throat selection process, Seacom shortlisted and called about 2000 applicants for the final interview. It was a very tough process for the interviewers to get the best 40 future marines as many more have been found eligible for the ETO course. Hence for the pilot batch, the management may increase the seats and has also decided to extend the final list deadline to 31st January’2014 which gives opportunity to more aspirants some more time to apply. Now the first batch is scheduled to start on 3rd February’2014.
Seacom Marine College having Campus at Dhulagarh near Kolkata is the only college which has been granted approval to conduct the ETO course in Eastern India. This ETO program has been officially adopted by IMO (International Maritime Organization) recently (STCW Convention A – III/6) and approved by Directorate General Shipping (Govt. of India) as an entry point post in shipping industry. On successful completion of this course and the compulsory assured on board training of 8 months, the student will be immediately absorbed in the industry. Passing students can expect to draw a starting monthly package of Rs 60,000/- to 1 Lakh for Indian ships and 1500 – 2000 USD/ month in foreign flag vessels approximately.
