UID Linked Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG to be Rolled Out Across Maharashtra


Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Monday, September 23, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- Taking the transformational potential of the UID Linked Direct Benefit Transfer into consideration, Hon. Chief Minister Shri Prithviraj Chavan took a detailed review of the project progress on September 20, 2013. This was attended by senior officers of the State Government, all Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors, senior officials from UIDAI and senior officials from Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India.

Shri Chavan expressed his satisfaction at the progress made by the State Government in the UID project, wherein more than 7.3 Cr. residents have been enrolled and UIDs have been generated for more than 6.68 Cr. residents. He expressed his confidence that the major population in the State shall be covered by March 2014, which is much ahead of the project target set by UIDAI.

UID Linked DBT for LPG Subsidy has successfully launched in Wardha and Amravati. In Wardha, more than 78% of the LPG consumers have linked their Consumer number with UID and more than INR 11 Cr. has been released directly into the Bank Account of beneficiaries. In Amravati, where the scheme started from 1st September, more than 43% of the LPG consumers have linked their Consumer number with UID and nearly INR 1 Cr. has been released directly into the Bank Account of beneficiaries.

While Government of India has announced that UID Linked DBT for LPG shall be launched in 33 districts of the State by 1st Jan 2014, Hon. Chief Minister expressed confidence that the State Government has the readiness to roll it out across the State by 1st Jan and requested Government of India (through the officials present) to include all districts of the State in the scheme, thus making Maharashtra the first State in the country to roll out UID linked DBT for LPG consumers across all the districts in the State.

Shri Chavan also instructed the District Collectors to set up UID enrolment center at the dealer offices of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and ensuring that the facility of printing of e-Aadhaar is available at the OMC dealer office for consumers whose Aadhaar has been generated but have not received the letters. He also requested the representatives of the Oil Marketing Companies to provide a facility of drop box at all OMC dealer office for collection of bank details of consumers for seeding with UID

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary IT stated that "Maharashtra is poised to become the first State in the country to launch UID linked Direct benefit Transfer for LPG consumers across the State. Since UID enrolment has reached an advanced stage, there is complete readiness to launch this scheme across the State. Consumers are requested to come forward in a systematic manner and link their UID with LPG Consumer Number and Bank Account to avail of the benefit. Care would be taken to ensure that no genuine beneficiary is left out."
