Japanese Companies Explore Collaboration Opportunities with the Rockland Hospitals Group

Manesar, Haryana, New Delhi, Delhi, India, Friday, September 13, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- A 30 strong Japanese delegation visited Rockland Manesar Hospital to explore collaboration possibilities with the Rockland Hospitals group. The delegation included Dr. Shuzo Yamamoto, honorary chairman of Japan Hospital Association and top management representatives from well known medical equipment companies like the Hitachi Ltd, Konica Minolta, Shimadzu Corporation, Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd, Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation, Tanita and the Olympus Medical Systems Corporation.

The Japanese interest in the Rockland Hospitals group started with a partnership with Hitachi whose MRI equipments are installed in the Rockland Hospital Manesar. The Rockland Group has successfully created a medical corridor in the Delhi NCR by creating a chain of tertiary care hospitals at Manesar, Dwarka and South Delhi with a beds capacity of 800 in 2012-13. The group has already acquired land for its fourth unit at Noida with plans to add a super speciality hospital with 500 beds.

There has been an increased expression of interest in Rockland from the key medical equipment manufacturers due to its plans of creating a five layered healthcare delivery mechanism reaching up to village levels. The focus of the Rockland five layered healthcare model is on ensuring access to quality healthcare at reasonable costs up to village levels by creating a chain of health volunteers connected to clinics which in turn will be connected with nursing homes, small hospitals and finally with the Rockland tertiary care hospitals in the Delhi NCR Medical Corridor.

Rockland Group plans to support the patients, health volunteers and the doctors in the clinics, nursing homes and small hospitals by installing diagnostic facilities at remote locations connected through an IT interface and will extend medical and management support. Rockland doctors will visit partner centers for planned surgeries that can be performed locally and will help in shifting the tertiary care patients to Delhi NCR where treatment is not possible locally.

The plans are on to cover 400 districts in North and North East India through a network of 4000 clinics, 400 nursing homes and 200 small hospitals by forming alliances with the already existing players. This would need a large deployment of diagnostic equipment ranging from ECG machines to Cath Labs depending on the needs of each location. There is a keen interest from the medical equipment fraternity to collaborate with Rockland in this venture which after a successful test run is ready to be launched in phases by the end of this year.
