EMMA Expo India 2013 - The Gateway to Taiwan's Industrial Excellence Inaugurated in Chennai
7th Edition to promote bilateral trade and to offer the island nation's internationally acclaimed services and products between Sep 5 and Sep 7, 2013
Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Friday, September 06, 2013 -- (Business Wire India) -- The three day EMMA Expo India 2013 commenced here at the Chennai Trade Center with a grand opening ceremony. The Expo is organized by the Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) along with Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (TEEMA), Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI), and Taiwan Transportation Vehicle Manufacturers Association (TTVMA), under the auspice of the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), Taiwan in association with Standard Chartered Bank and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
The Expo was inaugurated in the presence of several dignitaries including Mr. Woody Tyzz-Jiun Duh, Vice Minister of Economic Affairs, Taiwan; Mr. San Gee, Vice Chairman, Taipei World Trade Center; Mr. Ajay Kanwal, CEO, Standard Chartered Bank (Taiwan); Mr. M Rafeeque Ahmed, Chairman, FICCI; Mr. P. Thangamani, Minister, Ministry for Industry, Government of Tamil Nadu; Mr. Vidya Shankar, Principal Secretary of Karnataka.
The three-day exposition is expected to attract 3,800 visitors, including buyers from India and neighboring countries such as Bangladesh. It is estimated that the EXPO will generate about US$17.5 million in business opportunities. Early this year, Taiwan and India have signed a Carnet Protocol allowing duty free temporary movement of goods/ exhibits for exhibitions/ fairs in both the countries which will later be taken out of the country.

Commenting on the role of EMMA Expo India, Mr. Woody Tyzz-Jiun Duh, the Vice Minister of Economic Affairs, Taiwan said, "During the past seven years, bilateral trade between Taiwan and India has grown from US$ 4.9 billion in 2007 to US$ 6 billion in 2012. From January through July in 2013, bilateral trade has already reached US$3.89 billion, compared with US$3.68 billion for the same period in 2012, with an increase of 5.7%, a sign that bilateral trade will continue to grow."

Exhibitors at the expo include: ASUS, the world's third largest consumer notebook computer manufacturer; Advantech Corporation, global leader in industrial computing; Tatung, manufacturer of green energy products such as solar power generation systems and oil-immersed amorphous transformers and HIWIN Technologies, ranked No. 2 worldwide in terms of production volume for ball screw and linear guideway.
