The Executive Council of the Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE), the apex body of the biotech sector in India announced that it will be identifying and awarding select players for their Outstanding Contributions to the Growth & Development of Biotechnology in India for the ten year period from 2002 to 2012. The finalists will be awarded at the gala event being planned on March 11 and 12 in Delhi to commemorate 10 years of ABLE.

The theme identified being "Building a Bio Economy", dignitaries from the government and the industry are expected to present their views on Indian Biotechnology - through the decade, Government Initiatives for developing Science & Technology in India and The Technological Imperative in the growth and development of India to provide a conducive environment for the growth of the sector. Mr G Steven Burrill, a renowned biotech visionary and CEO, Burrill & Company, USA will give the keynote address on The Global Biotechnology Industry - Challenges and Opportunities.

Biotechnology has the potential to bring in transformational change that enables well-being of the people and the world economy. A whole eco-system is required for biotechnology to flourish and to be translated into real benefits for the society. These awards are being conferred in an endeavor to showcase commitments of various stakeholders in improving the biotechnology landscape in India.

As part of this award function, there will be ten awards in six categories which will be shortlisted on various parameters. This is a unique opportunity for the Indian biotech professionals and organizations to showcase their best work over the last 10 years from 2002 to 2012 and compete at a national level. The categories for the awards are: Companies, Public Sector (Central government level), Public Sector (State government level), Financial Sector, Educational Sector and Park/Incubators.
