Wego India Lights up with Diwali Travel Searches

Bangalore, Karnataka, India, Monday, November 05, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- India's Festival of Lights (Diwali) is setting online travel searches ablaze as the country makes their selection from the best hotels and resorts in top destinations according to analysis from Wego India (wego.co.in), one of the country's leading online travel sites.

Wego India is experiencing a clear spike in searches during Diwali as data trails for travel between November 9 and 13 reveal hundreds of thousands of Indians are considering their travel options during one of the country's most popular festivals.

Goa is leading search trends domestically with a huge one in every ten for the coastal city, and more than half are considering international destinations, including Singapore where Diwali celebrations also have a strong presence.

According to Jackson Fernandez, General Manager for Wego India, "India's larger cities are generating the majority of demand over the holiday as people escape their urban surroundings to spend time with families."

Mumbai residents account for 28 per cent of hotel searches, ten percent from New Delhi, eight per cent from Calcutta and six per cent from Bangalore. Delhi and Mumbai are selecting Goa in the greatest numbers, with Wego's hotel inventory consisting around 1,000 options varying in price from Rs400 to over Rs20,000 per night.

Goa's coastline and partying atmosphere in the north and relaxing, pristine beaches in the south still show more than 440 properties with availability and more inland.

Fernandez recommends travellers make sense of the multitude of choices by using the Wego filters to reveal a short-list of their preferences and suit their budget. "Wego users from the larger cities are searching some pretty cool options in Goa right now and their choices are populating the rankings with hotspots."

Most popular are The Golden Palms available through HotelClub at around Rs 9,500 per night, the Vivanta by Taj Fort Aguada 5-star at Rs12,680 per night, and the mid-range Hotel Palacio de Goa at under Rs2,000 with TravelGuru.

Internationally Singapore is the leading destination stimulated by the fierce competition on routes to the Lion City. Mumbai is displaying a good choice for direct flights from Air India, Indigo and Singapore Airlines.

Marina Bay Sands is the leading property at over Rs19,000 per night from AsiaWebDirect. Situated in the vibrant district of Little India most favoured by Indian travellers, the Parkroyal on Kitchener Road and the Amara Singapore, both offer a number of suppliers on Wego with availability.
