Dell KACE is making it easier for organizations to improve their endpoint security and achieve regulatory compliance through expanded visibility and audit trail capabilities. The latest version of its flagship product Dell KACE K1000 Management Appliance unveiled today includes expanded visibility into the network through support for new operating systems such as Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, SUSE Linux Enterpriseand Ubuntu Linux and Mac OSX Mountain Lion.

The Dell KACE K1000 is an easy-to-use, comprehensive and affordable appliance that fulfills all of the systems management needs of organizations of all sizes, including initial inventory and discovery, software distribution, configuration management, patching, security vulnerability remediation, asset management, service desk and reporting.

"Today's organizations face a wide range of IT challenges including end point security, regulatory compliance, server management and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), which can make it difficult for resource strapped IT teams to provide the services and responsiveness that their businesses are demanding," said Lubos Parobek, vice president of product for Dell KACE. "The Dell KACE K1000 Management Appliance provides a highly cost effective computer management solution to help organizations improve endpoint security and achieve regulatory compliance rapidly and without a steep learning curve."

Dell KACE's appliance-based approach brings improved security and better regulatory compliance to companies of all sizes. In addition to expanded OS support, some of the new key features and functionality include:

-- New OS Support
Extended OS support for Windows 8, Mac OS X Mountain Lion, Red Hat 6, Ubuntu and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2, and for Windows Server 2012 and existing and legacy Windows and Mac OSX versions, as well as SUSE Linux Enterprises and Red Hat Enterprise Linux enables IT to support multiple operating systems in a secure and scalable way. As the Windows 8 x86 based tablets hit the market in the coming months, the new release positions IT to support organizations and users that adopt Windows 8 x86 based tablets.

-- Machine Inventory API
New machine inventory API give IT teams the ability to view, track, report on and asset manage all IT assets from a single web-based console. For those systems where the KACE agent cannot be deployed, the API allows the inventory information to be scripted at the endpoint and pushed to the K1000 by uploading the generated XML file over a secure, authenticated and authorized HTTP connection.

-- Automated Agent Updates
Keeping the agents up-to-date is the first step toward implementing and maintaining security compliance. Automated, one-click agent updates enable IT teams to streamline the download and push out agent updates to end-points in a reliable and scalable way.

-- On-demand Patch Optimization
With the ability to selectively download patches on a need-to basis, IT teams can support complex and diverse environments with multiple languages/OS versions without being limited by storage bottlenecks. This optimizes the patching process and makes it more efficient and scalable to broader OS environments.

-- Multi-object Reporting Wizard
Multi-object reporting offers more powerful insights into the state of the IT infrastructure enabling IT administrators to report on multiple criteria thereby allowing them to view insightful correlations between different aspects of the IT infrastructure like patching schedules, software versions, hardware etc.

Dell KACE partners and customers herald the new version of KACE K1000 Appliance:

"SUSE today maintains deep relationships with major hardware partners such as Dell. In fact, more than 13,500 hardware, storage and networking devices are certified and supported on SUSE Linux Enterprise," said Phillip Cockrell, global alliance director, SUSE. "We're pleased to see that Dell KACE supports Linux in the K1000 Management Appliance so our joint customers can improve end point security in both mixed and Linux-based IT environments."

"The technology landscape is becoming more and more diversified as IT departments increasingly see the value in open source operating systems, a trend that's evident in the growing enterprise adoption of Ubuntu. To manage these environments, IT teams need reliable ways of supporting multiple operating systems in a secure and scalable way, which Dell KACE will clearly help deliver," said Mark Murphy, director of global alliances for Canonical.

"Our IT team was fighting fires daily in order to keep our systems up and running which didn't leave us lot of time to effectively address other critical IT initiatives," said Aaron Weinberg, director of information technology for The Kirlin Group. "With Dell KACE K1000 Management Appliance we're literally able to 'set it and forget it' to efficiently deploy patches and new applications saving us a significant amount of time and resources."

The Dell KACE K1000 Management Appliance will be available for purchase starting Oct. 24, 2012. Pricing starts at $8,900.
