TERI University celebrates its first ever MBA fest - Transcendence 2011
The two-day fest symbolizes TERI University's approach to go beyond the immediate & create young managers with a vision to understand the key sustainability challenges that corporates are facing in the 21st century

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Saturday, December 03, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- In an effort to enhance the scope and knowledge body of management education in India and prepare future managers for creating a green and sustainable tomorrow, the MBA Program (MBA Business Sustainability and MBA Infrastructure) of TERI University celebrated it first ever two-day annual fest - Transcendence '11, on 2nd & 3rd December, 2011.



Transcendence as the name suggests, envisions TERI University's dream of surpassing limits and touching newer horizons to reach out to all future leaders and make them aware about the key sustainability challenges that the corporates are facing in the 21st century. The fest also aimed to provide a unique platform to young leaders across the country to showcase their business acumen, out of the box thinking and leadership skills. The event which saw a huge participation from students from various B-schools and corporate leaders, reflected the ethos of the institution - 'Internalizing the synergies of 'Business Sustainability' while fulfilling the underlying motive of wealth maximization for businesses.

Inaugurating the fest Mr. Prabir Sengupta, Chairman, MBA Programmes, TERI University said, "By any indication, the coming years are not going to be business as usual. The clamours of various stake holders like customers, NGOs, Judiciary, Government, etc. will compel the players in business and society to pursue a much more sustainable process than at present. This is a new challenge before us, particularly for those dealing with young minds, who will be leaders of tomorrow, and will facilitate change. In all our activities we have tried to deal these challenges by internalizing the issues related to society, environment and ethics in our management education as successful management of these concerns will mar or promote the businesses of tomorrow. Transcendence 2011 symbolizes this approach - the approach for going beyond the immediate and keeping our sights steady on future way of our business. We have played havoc with mother earth so long and proper management of the future is a necessity. We at TERI University are nurturing our students to flag off sustainable growth for future."

Mystique, a technical paper presentation on infrastructural sustainability of India, StrateGem, a case study on Kingfisher Airlines and Belligerence a debate on "Is India Inc. doing enough to surge ahead in the field of sustainability, beyond CSR, as against China?, were platforms for young minds to harness their management acumen.

Students from various universities including IITs, IIFT, FMS took part in the brain-storming sessions.

The main attraction of the fest was the Leadership Summit on day-2 that saw stalwarts from the corporate and academic world delve into sustainable business solutions and discuss their views on 'Business Sustainability- Future Challenges and Strategies'.

Mr. S Chouksey, Whole Time Director, JK Lakshmi Cement; Mr. Raju Kapoor, Executive Director, National Seed Association Of India; Mr. SK Sharma, Ex-IFS officer, Ms. Annapurna Vancheswaran, Director SDO, TERI and Mr. Prabir Sengupta, Chairman, MBA Programmes, TERI University were the panelists of the summit. They shared their visions and perspectives on how sustaining businesses is a key challenge that organizations across the globe are facing today. In their view, businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to sustain their growth amidst the adverse times of financial turbulence and changing world order and are hence, increasingly embracing the sustainability paradigm. They further said that leaders from all part of the world are engaging in dialogue with their stakeholders to ensure all-inclusive growth in their triple bottom line (people, profit and planet), hence realizing the need to go beyond philanthropic, risk mitigating investments in community development and to devise ways to do core businesses differently, giving a new meaning to sustainability beyond CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).

Dr. RK Pachauri, Chancellor, TERI University had a special video-recorded message for the participants encouraging them to be the torch bearers of the green campaign.

Mr. Vineet Nayar, CEO, HCL Technologies too had a special video-recorded message for the students. He emphasized upon the need for sustainable businesses.

Student bands and DJs kept the participants enthralled in the evenings. Business quizzes and chess competitions were also held for brain storming. Spic Macay too performed at the fest.

The MBA Program at TERI University is the latest addition to list of Masters Courses being offered at the university. There are two very unique courses which are being offered by the MBA department of the university - MBA Business Sustainability and MBA Infrastructure. The course structure aims at providing not just the core management concepts and functions like Finance and Marketing but also sensitize its students about the changing world order and the rising importance of the concept of "Business Sustainability" and the challenges that lie ahead of us as we come out of the University as "Managers with a conscience"! The specialization in Infrastructure is also based on the rising need of managers in the infrastructure industry, given the increasing dependence of the growth of the economy on the Infrastructure of the country.
