'Increasing Digitalization, A Security Concern for Organizations,' says Frost & Sullivan at India Enterprise Security Summit 2011 Presented by Cisco
A Frost & Sullivan Annual Executive MindXchange on Enterprise Security
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Tuesday, May 24, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- Tele-commuting and emergence of a mobile workforce are among the fastest-growing trends around the world. Social networking is also on the rise, bridging the gap between personal and professional environments. Proliferation of numerous devices and emergence of technologies such as Virtualization, Cloud Computing, and Xaas, are trends being adopted by organizations across verticals. Being connected 24/7 in today's computing environment has made the information-sharing process much easier and resulted in immense benefits; however, the resultant corresponding risks cannot be ignored.
According to a survey done with CIOs across industries, 65 percent of the respondents believe that risks associated with Data Security are causing major disquiet in today's IT environment, followed by spyware, virus, worms, and trojan horses. However, network and content security, followed by data security, were expressed as the topmost priorities for CIOs in security management this year.
Commenting on the security spending aspect for enterprises in the current scenario, Anand Rangachary, Managing Director, Frost & Sullivan, Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia, stated, "IT security spending as a percentage of revenues continues to be relatively low in India when compared to other fast-growing economies in the world. Eighty percent of Indian companies agree that IT security is a vital component and advocate that they have a proper plan for the same in future. However, 48 percent of the companies spend only 1-5 percent of their total revenues on IT security, and 15 percent state that they do not have any fixed allocation for the same as it is purely demand-based. Even though the percentage of spending is relatively low, concerns regarding threats remain high in the agenda of key decision makers in enterprises. Lack of employee awareness, combined with difficulty in enforcing policies, were expressed as the major challenges in security management today."
CIOs face challenges from business and technological aspects. Compliance and risk management, reputation loss, the need to meet business objectives, emergence of new technology, and globalization, continue to be the prime business challenges. Today, challenges also result from the need to integrate technology in order to better manage security solutions, lower total cost of ownership, along with the need to address challenges of hiring and retaining talent.
To help the CIOs understand the challenges of digitalization, the resultant impact of emerging threats, make efforts to address new and continuing threats to Information Security, and respond to the increasing risk of security breaches, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Practice of Frost & Sullivan, the Global Growth Partnership company organized the 'India Enterprise Security Summit 2011' presented by Cisco. This MindXchange aimed to convene the best minds in Information Security under one roof to create an interactive milieu for exchange of knowledge and ideas.
Speaking on the sideline of the event, Mr. Harvinder S. Rajwant, Vice President, Borderless Networks, Cisco India & SAARC, "Today, the demand for anytime, anywhere, any-device network access has become a workplace mandate but has also introduced new, complex IT challenges, especially with respect to security. As per The Cisco Connected Technology World Report (2010) the demand to work from anywhere, with the user's device of choice is increasing dramatically, as is the demand to use video to enhance communications. IT managers hence need to look at an architectural approach to network and security. Cisco's Borderless Networks architecture helps IT adapt to rapid changes arising from the consumerization of technology and shifting work models. The architecture delivers user services that enhance borderless security, performance, and mobility to heighten business agility."
According to Bhaskar Bakthavatsalu, Regional Director - India & SAARC, Check Point Software Technologies, "Organisations should look at security as a business enabler. Check Point 3D Security views security as a 3-dimensional business process that combines policies, people and enforcement that provides stronger protection across various layers of security, which includes network, data and endpoints. With the ever changing threat landscape, to achieve the level of protection currently needed, security needs to grow from a mere collection of disparate technologies to an effective business process. With 3D Security, organizations can now be certain of implementing a blueprint for security that goes beyond just technology to ensure the integrity of all information and assets of your organisation."
The Summit was supported by Cisco as Platinum Partner, and Check Point and HCL as Gold Partners. The media partners for the event were Ciol.com, Express Computer, and Infosecurity.
