International Meet on Fire, Safety, Security Kicked off in Delhi Today

New Delhi, Delhi, India, Friday, April 29, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- - New technologies introduced bring in new threats. Prediction and Preparedness is the best way to handle safety and security threats: Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary, Department Of Public Enterprises, Government of India
- Encourage Safety Research, safety professionals participating in the conference urged various governments

Introduction of every new technology together it brings in new threats. Computers brought viruses, malware. Compact Discs (CDs) corruption of data storied in it, oil rigs spillage, ships sink when come close to harbour. So there is no area which is threat free.

Preparedness to handle threats is the best way to ensure safety at work place. Workplace environment is changing much faster than anticipated. Who knew Nuclear power plants can pose threats like Chernobyl Disaster. Even after the quarter century since the world's worst nuclear disaster at Chernobyl in Ukraine happened, fears of safety of atomic energy are looming large across the world. And now comes Fukushima Nuclear Accident said Mr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Secretary, Department Of Public Enterprises, Government of India while delivering his keynote address at the inauguration of the Greentech's international meet on fire, safety and security in Shangri-la's Eros Hotel in New Delhi today.

And added that along with the advancing technology we inherit advancing threats. It is better to prepare, then control, combat and neutralize the threats. And he asked safety professionals to stand united to address the safety issues to make work places safer than ever before. Mr. Chatterjee also unveiled the book which is the compilation of all the papers submitted by the speakers and participants.

The two day conference is organized by New Delhi based NGO, Greentech Foundation and supported by Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India. The theme of the conference is "Best Practices at Work Places". Many practioners and policy makers from across the globe will be discussing today and tomorrow subjects as wide ranging as inclusive work environment, group coaching for employees on safety, behaviour based safety, risk assessment, work stress management, hazards identification, slips, trips and falls prevention, contractor safety, fire detection and alarm systems.

Some of the speakers who deliberate during these two days include Ms. Erika Walker Thomas, President and CEO of The walker Thomas Group, USA; Mr. Ozgur Bozoglu, Public Safety Consultant from Turkey and Mr. Tay Hao Giang, Fire Engineering Consultant from Fire Safety Engineering, Malaysia.

Earlier addressing the gathering President of Greentech Foundation, Mr. Kamaleshwar Sharan said "accidents bring tears and safety brings cheers" and added that the meet will help improve its participants understanding about the fire, safety and security challenges of the world. And he gave a clarion call to safety professionals "better to prepare and prevent rather than repair and regret"

The participants who deliberated felt that the Government must encourage Safety Research, which is not at all heard in the country. Also suggested that adequate budget must be allocated for the purpose. We talk about safety when accidents, mishaps happen. And we forget it immediately, till one more accident happens. So better prevent than cry over the accident was the unified opinion of all the participants.

At the end of event, the organiser Greentech Foundation will submit recommendations of participants to the various governmental agencies for the necessary action.

During the event awards will be presented to companies who excelled in work safety and security.
