EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y., United States, Monday, March 21, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- PPC®, a leader in connector and filter technology for more than 65 years, today announced that Mark Davies, vice president and general manager of the company's international wireless division, will be participating in the panel discussion "The Growing Importance of Network Health on the Road From 2G to 4G" at Convergence India 2011, taking place from March 24-26 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The session will be held from 14:30 to 16:30 hrs. on Friday, March 25 in Hall 8.

As mobile networks transition towards 4G, the prospective data revenues are increasingly impacted by network health. To date, most industry attention has focused on the "health" of the active network. The panel session at Convergence India will address the often-overlooked performance of the passive RF path and its disproportionate impact on data throughput.

In contrast to voice-centric 2G networks, 3G networks display increased sensitivity to RF path performance, and it is predicted that gigabit, ultra-broadband 4G technology will exhibit even higher sensitivities. This panel discussion will explore redefining performance thresholds of the passive RF path for business models contingent on significant levels of wireless data revenue.

"It is of crucial importance that we bring attention to the issue of RF path performance and the importance of specifying and verifying the path components," said Davies. "The issue has been a low-priority concern for many network operators across the globe, but is now emerging as an area of significant potential for increased quality of service and associated revenue enhancement as the industry moves towards 4G technology."

Prior to joining PPC, Mark Davies held several global positions in the Radio Frequency Systems group (RFS), most recently as managing director of RFS Germany, leading the RF Transmission and Distribution business unit. He also participated in the first Fiber-in-the-Loop projects in Germany as part of the Alcatel Cable fiber optics division. Davies holds a Dipl.-Ing degree from the University of Hagen in Germany and an M.A. from Cambridge University, UK.
