Bloom Fertility Centre Conducts Workshop on `Introduction to Fertility Management Counseling'

Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- Bloom Fertility Centre of K.M. Speciality Hospital has recently conducted a three day workshop on `Introduction to Fertility Management Counseling' as a way of creating awareness among people on psychological aspects related to infertility.

Dr. Narayana Reddy -Pioneer in Sexual Medicine; Mrs. Saraswathi Bhaskar, Counseling Psychologist and Coach; and Dr. Susan B. Saint-Rossy, Clinical Social worker-United States of America were the key facilitators of this workshop.

As a social cause, Bloom Fertility Centre has taken the initiative for the first time in Chennai's medical history as infertility is of serious concern today with increasing number of couples seeking for in-vitro fertilization and other assisted reproductive services.

"Counseling plays a major role in resolving stress-related issues due to infertility as it involves money, time and energy of couples who seek medical care for the problem. It is usually women who bear the brunt of the social and emotional stigma arising from the inability to produce a child," said Dr. Kavitha Gautham, Head of Bloom Fertility Centre.

Apart from their personal trauma, women in infertile couples often protect their husbands from their own pain and feelings of failure by taking much of the responsibility for the treatments upon themselves protecting husbands from their own responsibility in the conception.

As a result of taking responsibility for the emotional impact of the infertility, the woman experience intense feelings, such as pain, anger, fear, etc., which cause her to feel an anxious depression. Infertility is one of the most stressful experiences anyone can go through in life. In many cases pressure from family and friends has driven women to the point of suicide.

Other major psychological issues include unresolved grief, as there is a `death' every month when the hopes of being pregnant are dashed. These realities often leave the patient feeling helpless and isolated, sometimes without support from family or friends or understanding from them about how difficult the process is.

Such unsupportive interference by family members, constant nagging, and humiliating remarks lead to frequent fight between the couple and the immediate family member, ultimately resulting in divorce but leaving the core issue unresolved.

"Though there are experts and specialized doctors everywhere It also becomes the duty of society at large especially friends and family of the couple to be understanding and be supportive of their needs and to provide respite and care when they realize what the couple is going through," added Dr. Kavitha.

Bloom Fertility Centre, headed by Dr. Kavitha, is a pioneer in providing 360 degree healthcare solutions, aspiring to evolve into an authority in the area of fertility medical services, thus enabling people live life to the fullest. Equipped with the latest technology and a team of experts, Bloom is on a mission to identify, address and educate the people about infertility and its cure.

In addition to providing medical care, Bloom has identified and understood the need of counseling as a major role player in resolving stress-related issues due to infertility. When the couple is at their worst mental state, it is counseling alone which can restore a sense of hope and confidence and make them realize that the problem they are facing may actually be curable.

Bloom has joined hands with NGOs to raise awareness about infertility all over the state and its cure which has brought about a change to thousands of couples who had lost any hope of having a child in their lives. Armored with an exceptional team of experts from various related fields, under the headship of Dr. Kavitha, Bloom has set the ball rolling for a revolutionary change - a change not only seen in the urban cities but also in the sub-urban and rural areas.

"It is also the responsibility of each human to empathize with women and to understand their problems and needs and to create an environment of love and happiness which surpasses any other joy in this world," remarked Dr. Kavitha.
