New Delhi, Delhi, India, Thursday, December 30, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- Sandip Das, Director Aircel & Chief Executive Officer of Maxis Communications Berhad, has been named as one of the 100 most powerful people in the telecoms industry worldwide, by Global Telecom Business for his game-changing influence on the Malaysian and Asian communications landscape.

The GTB Power100 list was compiled from nominations by worldwide readers of Global Telecoms Business - including CEOs, CFOs and other senior executives of the world's major operators, telecoms vendors and industry organisations. GTB first ran its Power100 to mark the 100th printed issue of the magazine in 2008, and inclusion in the list has been coveted by executives throughout the industry.

Sandip took leadership of the Maxis Group of companies in 2007 after growing India's first private Telco (now Vodafone Essar Limited) into a premium brand. He then took the helm of Maxis Berhad, the Group's flagship operations in 2009. While at the helm of the Group's Malaysian operations, Sandip also serves as a director on the boards of Group companies i.e. Sri Lanka Telekom Plc and Mobitel (Private) in Sri Lanka, Aircel Limited, and PT Natrindo Telepon Selular in Indonesia.

SANDIP DAS
was appointed Director to the Board of Aircel Ltd in 2007.

Mr Das is the Chief Executive Officer and Director on the Board of Maxis Communications Berhad (Maxis), responsible for the Maxis Group's operations and investments in Malaysia, India and Indonesia. Maxis is the leading mobile operator in Malaysia.

Mr Das also serves as Commissioner on the Board of Commissioners of PT Natrindo Telepon Seluler (NTS) in Indonesia, and as Director on the Boards of Sri Lanka Telecom and Mobitel (Pvt) Ltd in Sri Lanka.

Internationally, Mr Das is a member of the Board and the Executive Council of the Bridge Mobile Alliance, Asia's largest mobile alliance, comprising the region's top mobile operators.

Prior to joining Maxis in January 2007, Mr Das was Deputy Managing Director and Director on the Board of Hutchison Essar Telecom (now Vodafone Essar), one of India's largest mobile operators. During his tenure here he was also the Deputy Chairman of the Service Industry Panel of the Confederation of Indian Industries ("CII").

Before his tenure at Hutch, Mr Das served as Franchise Head of Toyota cars and Hino trucks with the Al Futtaim Group in Dubai, UAE for five years. Prior to this, he spent 10 years with Indian consumer durable giant Usha International (The Shriram Group).

He holds a First Class Mechanical Engineering degree from Regional Engineering College, Rourkela, India (now renamed the National Institute of Technology) and a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi.
