Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Monday, June 07, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Employees of Bisleri International Pvt Ltd, launched a green initiative here on World Environment Day by pledging to help people plant more than 10,000 trees by the end of 2010 to help reduce CO2 emission and help save the planet.
Hundreds of Bisleri employees dressed in green, poured on the Western Express Highway, near the Bisleri Junction and took a participative approach by involving Mumbaikars in the plant a tree campaign for a GREEN MUMBAI. They distributed around 1000 saplings to the people walking on the streets & moving in their cars. Bisleri endeavors to create awareness among Mumbaikars on environmental pollution and global warming by involving the residents of Mumbai in this plant a tree drive.
Speaking on this subject Mr. Ramesh Chauhan, CMD, Bisleri International, said "For the green campaign we need a strong back-up of water, hence the need to think of ways to capture the rain water and prevent it from wasting. This water can be used for the tree plantation, agriculture, afforestation etc. As a initiative of the Bisleri Trust we have planted 2000 Australian mangium, 1000 bamboos both green & golden, 500 hibiscus and 500 Kaner plants in Kamshet. This varied species have actually added the greenery back to this place. As a separate initiative in Gujarat, we have built check dams that store over 10 billion liters of water."
Speaking about this initiative, Ms Anjana Ghosh, Director, Bisleri said, "This is Bisleri's contribution to support the UNEP billion tree campaign to make this planet green. We believe every drop of water makes a mighty ocean." She added, "As responsible citizens we have an obligation to put things right for the damage mankind has caused to the environment and we have witnessed that earth has a extraordinary ability to heal, if people give a supporting hand and this is what we at Bisleri are doing. Encouraging the people to plant trees is a way to build awareness and bring people together for the cause as planting trees is one of the most significant but simplest things the average man in the street can do."
Also at the Mahim Nature Park, where award winning short films on environment were specially screened for the public, Bisleri distributed around 300 saplings to the sensitized audience who walked home with a message.
This is the first phase of the campaign and the company aims to make this a consistent effort and cover other parts of India in the subsequent weeks thus making it a pan India campaign.
