India's leading Women are Rewarded for their Outstanding Endeavours at the WIL India Awards


Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Thursday, May 06, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- Prominent women from across India gathered to celebrate their success at the prestigious Women in Leadership (WIL) India Awards at the Sheraton Hotel in New Delhi this evening.

The awards, which saw an incredible turnout, were held in conjunction with the WIL India Forum, which concludes tomorrow afternoon. Amongst the VIP guests in attendance were renowned business women, entrepreneurs, and C-level executives from multiple industries across the country.

Shortlisted nominees were judged by a panel of notable Indian women including Dr. Kiran Bedi, India's first and highest ranking women in the Indian Police Service; Pallavi Joshi Bakhru, Partner-Tax and Regulatory Services, Grant Thornton and Avivah Wittenberg-Cox, Founder, 20-first.com (UK) and Author of Why Women Mean Business.

In addition to her role on the judging panel, Dr. Kiran Bedi was on stage at the ceremony to present the trophies alongside Rekha Menon from Accenture. Award categories and their winners included:

Most Women-Friendly Employer

This award went to Cisco for their initiatives in actively encouraging women executives to develop in their careers within their organisation.

Woman Initiative of the Year

The Lila Poonawalla Foundation received this award for its outstanding efforts in creating benefits for the female community and encouraging women to learn and engage in development activities.

Woman Leader in Public Sector

Ela R. Bhatt, Founder of the Self-employed Women's Association, took this award for her exceptional performance in encouraging self-employment and in developing women in the community.

Leading Woman in Media

This award went to Barkha Dutt, Group Editor-English News for NDTV for her achievements as a media personality and delivering her message to women across the nation.

Leading Woman in Human Resources

Leena Nair, Executive Director and Vice-President-HR for Hindustan Unilever was honoured with this award for the key role she has played in working with women to understand their career needs, enhance their skills and promote their growth.

Leading Woman in Financial Sector

This award was presented to Renu Sud Karnad, Managing Director of the Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC) whose professional combination of strategic decision-making, analytical and advisory skills and achievements have contributed to the success of her organisation.

Leading Woman in Healthcare

Swati Piramal, Vice Chairperson for Piramal Life Sciences Limited and Director for Piramal Healthcare Limited took this award for her innovation and dedication to creating a better standard of living for women in the community.

Leading women in IT

This award was presented to Padmasree Warrior, Chief Technology Officer for Cisco on the strength of her professional skills and capabilities and her internationally recognised innovations in IT.

Indian Business Woman of the Year

Leading Indian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year
