Canon is India's No. 1 Laser Printer Brand
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, December 02, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- Canon India Private Limited, India's No.1 Complete Digital Imaging Company today announced its leadership in the Laser Printer category in India. The IDC Report pertains to the Third Quarter of the Calendar Year 2009 which specifies that Canon holds No. 1 position in the laser printer category across the nation. The latest IDC report of September 2009 pegs Canon's market share at 41% in the single function laser printer category. Over the last 18 months Canon's laser printer business has steadily grown and expanded its reach across the nation with its 18 products which has resulted into this milestone figure. Canon's focus on this category resulted in the growth in this category from 13% in 2008 to 41% in 2009.

2009 has particularly been quite tough on IT and IT Peripherals industry in India on account of the impact of global slowdown. Overall the laser printer industry shrank 24% in the first nine months as per IDC. Alok further added "Canon is the only brand of laser printers which have grown over 112% over same period last year".
Speaking about the milestone Mr. V.P. Sajeevan, Assistant Director, Consumer Systems Product Division (CSP), Canon India said, "At Canon we spared no efforts to reach out to the key markets and consumers. Our focus has always been to educate our partners and customers about Canon's product range and technological advancement. We are elated with this kind of response from our nationwide consumers and partners, which has helped us take lead in the Laser segment. Various campaigns like Print City and City Specific campaign, our technically advanced products has today culminated into the 41% market share in the laser printer category. Canon India, with its sustained efforts has created a customer base of 350,000 for laser printers only, as of September 2009. A leadership position in this category establishes Canon as a strong player in the IT peripheral division. Canon aims at keeping up the pace and reaching out to its target customers to gain further grounds in the Indian IT peripheral market. To announce this achievement, Canon is launching a mass media campaign across print, online, radio and outdoor alongwith a never before attempted, first time in the industry campaign where 1250 partners across 171 towns will receive a letter from Canon along with flowers and chocolates to celebrate this achievement at the same time.
Overall, this has been a great year for the Canon Consumer System Products group which has seen a growth of 68% till November 2009 over the same period last year. In fact in November 2009, the division recorded its highest ever growth at over 90%.
