World's First Ultra Thin Full HD LCD Adjudged 'Television of the Year'
Hitachi Ultra Thin Full HD LCD Impresses Judges at the NDTV Tech Life Awards with its Stunning Form and Functionality
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, May 06, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- In a ceremony filled with glitz, glamour and fanfare, Hitachi's Ultra Thin Full HD LCD was adjudged as the 'Television of the Year' at the first ever NDTV Tech Life Awards held on 29 April 2009. The jury comprised of eminent technologists, tech-media personalities and a Bollywood personality.
"It is a privilege and an honor that the Hitachi Ultra Thin Full HD LCD, which is also the world's first Ultra Thin Full HD LCD, has received the first NDTV Tech Life Award for the 'Television of the Year'. The Award is recognition of Hitachi's commitment to provide cutting edge televisions which provide a path-breaking mix of superlative technology, aesthetics and eco-friendliness to the Indian consumer", said Mr. Tarun Jain, Country Head - India, Hitachi Home Electronics Asia (S) Pte. Ltd.
From dozens of nominations, there were five leading television brands, who were nominated for the 'Television of the Year'** Award. It was only at the Awards ceremony, in Oscar's style, that the winner was announced. The entire awards process - from the nomination process to the final short listing - was overseen by Ernst & Young who were the process validators.
Hitachi, a few years ago, spotted the need among the aesthetically discerning luxury segment consumers, for a technologically cutting edge television that integrates with the overall ambience of a space, instead of screaming out for attention. This set the stage for a journey within Hitachi to design a television that looks exquisitely elegant while offering superb picture quality combined with eco-friendly features. The culmination of this journey was the birth of the next big television sub-category - the Ultra Thin category - represented by the world's first Ultra Thin LCD designed & manufactured by Hitachi. Other brands have now followed suit and have announced the launch of similar Ultra Thin offerings, ensuring that this sub-category will see plenty of action in the near future.
In a few months Hitachi is slated to launch its next line-up of exciting and advanced LCD televisions.
** The Ultra Thin Full HD LCD which won the 'Television of the Year' Award was the UT42-MX700A. A brief product note along with features is provided below.

Aesthetics
-- 360 degrees - The back of the television is flat and sleek making the television equally attractive from any angle and hence making it possible to be placed in any part of the room (not necessarily against a wall)
-- Elegant floor stand - Complimenting the 360 degree aesthetic appeal of the Ultra Thin LCD television is an exquisitely designed floor stand which helps in convenient placement of the television anywhere in the room, and not necessarily against or on a wall.
-- Color variations - The Hitachi Ultra Thin 1.5 LCD Series comes in two color options - deep black and pristine white - so that the television gels better with the ambience
-- 10.9 kg weight ( 32' Inch LCD panel) - Its light weight allows the consumer to move the LCD Panel to different rooms with ease
-- Fanless Ventilation system - An advantage of the new cooling system is that the unsightly grilles seen on the rear of other sets have been replaced by unobtrusive vents on top and bottom, giving the back of the units a sleeker, more refined appearance.
Technology
-- IPS LCD technology for superior brightness, contrast and color - With the IPS Pro panels, it optimizes the backlight structure, improves the light output from each cell to produce truer color and more distinct contrast than any other LCD technology and also minimize the amount of power consumed by the Ultra Thin flat screens
Clear Motion Picture with 120Hz Conversion - With 120Hz Conversion of clear motion picture, it delivers crisp and clear images in vertical, horizontal and oblique dimension.
-- Hitachi's Proprietary "Anti-Judder" Technique - In its new Ultra Thin line, Hitachi has implemented proprietary technology, it accurately and automatically eliminates the jerky "judder" motion and matches the motion of the original movie.
-- Picture Master Full HD - With enhanced high-resolution image processing engine, Picture Master Full HD, it analyzes and processes image at a high speed, providing state-of-the-art high picture quality.
-- Energy Saving Design - The UT series has energy saving features, such as " auto power off" to prevent consumers from forgetting to turn off the TV. The UT series also feature a "video power saver" which allows consumers to switch to stand-by mode when there is no signal coming into the TV.
Technology for the World's First Ultra Thin LCD ( 35mm)
-- Newly Developed Thin Power Unit -The thickness of the power unit is 1/3 the size of Hitachi's conventional power unit, achieved by high-density circuit board technology and by optimizing power efficiency.
-- Thin LCD Module - The panel is an IPS method. The diffusion board spreads the fluorescent light forming the backlight of the LCD panel evenly to realize thinness and high picture quality.
-- Space Saving Non-Fan Cooling Structure - Hitachi's simulation of the latest heat radiation technology enabled a non-fan cooling method. It is designed to radiate heat efficiency without excess heat, even when wall-mounted.
-- Ultra Thin, Ultra Light Frame - Hitachi's unique rigid frame structure is designed to prevent the panel from deformation, to be secure in strength and to be safely placed anywhere in the home.
