Pest control (India) Pvt Ltd and Exosect U.K. Introduces New "Green" Exosect Technology which Provides Environmentally Friendly Control of Stem Borer and Maximises Yield for Rice Growers in India
Launch of New Product which Matches Efficacy of Traditional Farmer Practise with Greater Economic and Environmental Benefits
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Monday, April 27, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- On May 1st 2009 Pest Control (India) Private Limited (PCI) a pioneer in promoting eco friendly technologies in Agricultural crop protection for over 20 years, with a nation wide network of branches across the country along with Exosect, UK, a leading provider of environmentally conscious insect pest control will announce the launch in India of Exosex YSBTab, an "Auto-confusion"T product to combat the damaging effects of yellow stem borer of rice.
The yellow stem borer, Scirpophaga incertulas is a serious pest of rice throughout Southeast and East Asia, China, the Indian continent, and Afghanistan. It attacks rice throughout its growth period causing large reductions in yield. Current control methods rely heavily on the use of pesticides, often applied by hand, which may be detrimental to the farmer, water supplies, beneficial wild life and the environment in general. In addition consumers are increasingly demanding food that is totally free of pesticide residues.
Auto-confusion is a novel method of Pest Management using insect sex pheromones at very low levels (similar to conventional mass trapping and yet produces better results in preventing the adult moths from mating). This is a patented technology of Exosect Ltd in the U.K. and has recently been awarded the title of "Best New Product" at The Society of Food Hygiene and Technology Awards, held in London, UK in November 2008 for Exosex SPTab a stored product pest solution and "INNOFEL" award at the SIFEL Morocco Annual Agricultural Show, held in December 2008 for Exosex CM (codling moth active mating disruption system).
PCI leads its foray in the field of Eco friendly Crop protection through its dedicated and DSIR recognized research and production facility which has won the prestigious DSIR awards twice in 1993 and 2007 for its work in this field.
Realizing the potential of this technology in enhancing food security, Government of India has given an exemption from registering this product.
Rice exporters, supermarket buyers and government advisers have been invited to attend a launch conference at the India Habitat centre in Delhi on May 1st where Alan Cork, Professor of Bio-rational Pest Management at the University of Greenwich, United Kingdom, will describe the development of the "Auto-confusion"T technology including the potential for use in a number of crops including rice and sugar cane.
Professor Cork states "Auto-confusion offers farmers, for the first time, an exciting non-toxic, biodegradable and practical alternative to conventional insecticide control of rice stem borer in my experience ideal for use in basmati export production".
Dr Krishnaiah Kothakonda, former Director Directorate of Rice Research, Hyderabad and a leading expert on rice production in India will present the results of two years of trials which has shown Exosex YSBTab to be as effective as traditional farmers' practise with the additional benefits of being environmentally friendly, easy and safe to apply, and cost efficient. According to Dr. Krishnaiah - "Auto-confusion is a silent battle against the target pest using pheromones which keeps the pest population under check, light on the pocket to the farmer and saves the environment too".
Using the new Exosect technology, rice producers will benefit from protection against stem borers, assisting them to maximise yields. With Exosex YSBTab no application equipment is required and access to clean water is not necessary, making the technology highly beneficial for rice producers with poor access to natural resources.
