India TV Opinion Poll Projects a UPA-NDA Photo-Finish
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Monday, April 13, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- The India TV-C Voter opinion poll conducted between April 3 and 11 among more than 30,000 respondents has thrown up a projection leading to a photo-finish between the Congress-led UPA and the BJP-led NDA. The poll has also been analysed under four distinct scenarios.
The UPA is projected to win 187 seats and the NDA is projected to get 189 seats. The Third Front led by Left parties and BSP is projected to win 115 seats, while the fourth combine of RJD-LJP-SP is set to corner 41, say survey results, telecast over India TV on Monday evening at prime time.
UPA and the NDA have not only a photo-finish projection, but the same is true for both the national parties. The Congress and the BJP are projected to win an identical 143 seats each. The survey has taken into account the mood of the people during the uproar over Varun Gandhi's inflammatory remarks leading to his arrest, as also the shoe-throwing incident leading to Tytler and Sajjan Kumar's exit.
While the UPA's projection of 187 seats include Congress 143, NCP 13, DMK combine 13, Trinamool 12, UDF 2, National Conference 3 and JMM 1, the NDA's projection of 189 seats include BJP 143, Janata Dal(U) 18, Shiv Sena 12, AGP 5, Akali Dal 5, Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal 4, and O P Chautala's INLD 2.
The Third Front's projection of 115 seats include Left parties 33, Mayawati's BSP 32, AIADMK+ combine 24, TDP/TRS combine 14, BJD 9, Janata Dal(S) 2 and Bhajan Lal's HVM 1.
The Fourth Front led by Lalu-Mulayam-Paswan trio is projected to bag 41 seats, with RJD-LJP getting 15 and the Samajwadi Party getting 26 seats. Thus, eventually adding the fourth front's tally into the UPA kitty, gives it a total of 228 seats, 44 seats short of the magic figure of 272.
India TV-C Voter poll expert Yeshwant Deshmukh has projected four eventual scenarios:
