FDPC Unveils Blueprint of the Fashion Hub in Delhi
A Step Towards Making India a Fashion Destination
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Advisory Committee of Fashion Design Promotion Council, the apex government recognized body of fashion in India, met yesterday to unveil the much talked about mega plan of creating a one of its kind Fashion Hub in Delhi. The Fashion Hub is conceived as a dedicated area for marketing support to the Indian fashion designers.
DDA has already demarcated a piece of land measuring 10 acres near IGNOU campus in Maidan Garhi for allotment to Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India for proposed Fashion Hub. The scheme will take off in the current financial year 2009- 2010, the proposed Fashion Hub will be implemented under the administrative control of the Ministry of Textile through Public Private Partnership as proposed by the Planning Commission.
Indian Fashion is recognized as one of the areas that have tremendous potential for the growth in times to come. Considering the potential in the industry and the need for proper utilization of resources, the Fashion Design Promotion Council has outlined certain areas that will be addressed through this project that are pivotal to future growth. They include hosting market meets, fashion shows during all the seasons, offer a wide variety of designer wear products from the Indian fashion manufacturing industry through a permanent exhibition, provide facilities of design, research on products and manufacturers, fashion photo shoots, etc. produce publicity material, literature on a wide range of fashion business related issues.
Vijay Singh, Secretary and CEO of the Fashion Design Promotion Council said, "The primary objective of the Fashion Design Promotion Council is to bridge gaps in development within the Fashion industry by taking support from the Government. I think that there is a need to create a demarcated zone where all Indian designers are present round the year and buyers from all over the world as well as across the nation can visit anytime. This Fashion Hub will be unique in many ways and will continue to nurture Indian Fashion industry in times to come."

The proposal of the Fashion Hub is one such project that can be enabled by coming together of Government and the Fashion industry. And this is probably a big leap in giving industry status to the fashion."
At present the industry comes together only twice a year for the fashion week in Delhi. However, all buyers from India and across the globe cannot travel during this time. There is a need of a zone that is earmarked as the one stop shop for all buyers and media who want to reach out to the designers even before or after the Fashion Week. The proposed Fashion Hub will serve the purpose of a permanent market-place for the Indian fashion industry to further their business transactions.

The Fashion Hub will accommodate the following features in its format:-
-- A permanent exhibiton centre
-- A convention centre with exhibition halls, auditoriums
-- A library and resource centre
-- A business centre with meeting rooms
-- Research & Development centre and an incubation centre
-- Designer boutiques and studios, offices
-- Fashion information centre
-- A textile and craft museum
-- Guest rooms, hotels, restaurants
-- Health spa, fitness centre, outdoor and indoor games facilities
It will also take into consideration other requirements associated with the above mentioned features including transport, stay and travel facilities and communication requirement, etc.
The Fashion Hub will act as a permanent Fashion Gallery that will project the image of contemporary India displaying the modern look of India on one hand along with showcasing the rich Indian heritage and its prowess in craftsmanship that is passed on from one generation to the other.
