The World's Leading DDoS Mitigation Technology from Arbor Networks Now Available in Solutions for the Enterprise Ranging from 500 Mbps to 40 Gbps Mitigation Capacity
Pravail APS 3.0 Includes Advanced Web Crawler Service that Blocks Malicious Web Crawlers while Protecting both Availability and a Website's Page Ranking
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, December 06, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Arbor Networks , Inc., a leading provider of security and network management solutions for enterprise and service provider networks, today announced the latest version of the Pravail ® Availability Protection System (APS), as well as new hardware options to provide greater flexibility in deployment. Pravail APS protects enterprises that rely on Internet availability, securing business continuity and availability by automatically neutralizing application-layer DDoS attacks before they impact critical services. This easy-to-deploy appliance relies on the world's most advanced and sophisticated attack detection and mitigation technology and is now available in traffic inspection capacities ranging from 500 Mbps all the way up to 10 Gbps. Arbor's Peakflow SP Threat Management System provides up to 40Gbps mitigation capacity - providing deployment options for every size organization.
World Leader in DDoS Mitigation
Arbor Networks' customers include the vast majority of the world's service providers and many of the largest enterprise networks in use today. According to a recent report from Infonetics Research titled, DDoS Prevention Appliance Market Outlook, Arbor Networks was cited as top supplier of DDoS prevention solutions overall as well as in the Carrier, Enterprise, Government and Mobile market segments.
Stateless Analysis Filtering Engine (SAFE)
Arbor's Stateless Analysis Filtering Engine (SAFE) is the backbone technology powering Arbor's Peakflow and Pravail DDoS mitigation solutions worldwide. That same technology that protects the vast majority of the world's service provider networks is now available to enterprises of all sizes, with mitigation capacity ranging from 500Mbps to 40Gbps.
The Stateless Analysis Filtering Engine is a unique packet-based engine that provides the foundation for both Pravail APS and the Arbor service provider solutions. Unlike load balancers, IPS or firewalls, SAFE detects and mitigates most DDoS attacks without tracking any session state. In cases where tracking is required, SAFE only stores minimal information for a short period of time. As a result, Pravail APS can withstand the target state tables in other security products and threaten availability. Further, SAFE incorporates advanced DDoS countermeasures developed by Arbor's Security Engineering & Response Team (ASERT). These countermeasures include advanced packet-based protections which neutralize hundreds of malware families that make up the vast majority of the global botnet threat.
"Pravail APS provides what other perimeter-based security devices cannot, and that is the ability to proactively protect against DDoS attacks," said Richard Martinez, enterprise security analyst with Frost & Sullivan. "Given the threat complexity and the business impact of DDoS, a full-spectrum solution is required. A common response by many administrators to the challenges of DDoS is the belief that their firewall and IPS infrastructure will protect them from attack. Unfortunately, this is not true. Firewalls and IPS devices, while critical to network protection, are not adequate to protect against complex DDoS attacks."
"DDoS is a complex problem that combines multiple attack techniques, tools and targets. Enterprises are realizing that existing solutions, such as firewalls and IPS, are not designed for availability threats such as application layer DDoS attacks," said Arbor Networks President Colin Doherty . "Pravail APS is purpose-built for application layer DDoS and for deployment in an enterprise environment. We're bringing the same technology that protects the vast majority of the world's ISP's to the enterprise."
What's new in Pravail APS 3.0:
-- Advanced Web crawler service: Pravail APS delivers superior availability protection without impacting a Website's page ranking and search engine results. The ASERT team has created policies that allow specific Web crawlers, but blocks those that are malicious or irrelevant. This provides a constant update on legitimate Web crawlers with protections in place to identify spoofing and illegitimate crawlers.
-- Insights into Advanced Botnet Attacks: Pravail APS 3.0 includes updates to the ATLAS® Intelligence Feed (AIF) that simplify attack identification and reporting. AIF automatically provisions Pravail APS appliances with the latest defenses to new threats as well as updates to IP location data-all in real-time. The AIF is made possible as a result of Arbor's close and privileged relationship with leading ISPs around the world with an extensive network of sensors and data, giving Arbor real-time visibility into 35Tbps of global Internet traffic. This gives Arbor unmatched insight into emerging threats-information used by ASERT to develop defenses to new, emerging threats.
-- A Focus on the Security Operations Center (SOC): Pravail APS 3.0 includes new reporting and protection features including SOC notification of blocked attacks, increased protection mechanisms and identification of unusual traffic patterns that could be indicative of an attack. Pravail APS 3.0 also gives the SOC the ability to customize attack responses for only the assets and services targeted by the attack (which minimizes impact for unaffected assets). All of these features better arm SOC engineers to intelligently and surgically mitigate attacks.

Growing Auto Sales and Manufacturing Bases, Especially of Low-Budget Cars, Enhances Opportunities for Logistics Companies - Notes Frost & Sullivan
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, December 06, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Drawn by the growing domestic market for passenger vehicles (especially low-budget and diesel cars) and commercial vehicles, numerous global automotive majors have set up manufacturing bases, and are expanding their footprint. They are also looking to make the most of India's rising prominence as a global manufacturing hub to meet their export targets. Auto component manufacturers tend to locate their production facilities near these OEMs, driving the growth of domestic logistics market, including transportation and warehousing.
New analyses from Frost & Sullivan(http://www.automotive.frost.com), Logistics Scenario Tracker on Indian Auto Components Industry, and Logistics Scenario Tracker on Indian Automobile Industry find that the total automotive sector including auto components and automobiles spent a total $3.13 billion in 2011 on logistics activities. Within this, auto components industry spent an amount of $1.65 billion in 2011 on logistics activities, accounting for 5.5 percent of the industry turnover. Transportation accounts for the largest share of the entire logistics spend of the industry, while warehousing accounts for the second largest share. The automobile industry spent an amount of $1.48 billion in 2011 on logistics activities accounting for 3.5 percent of automobile industry turnover. Transportation accounts for the largest share of the entire logistics spend of both the industry segments and is also the most outsourced function to logistics service providers (LSPs).
Although the market has significant potential, the rising costs of materials erode the profits of auto component and automobile manufacturers, and limitations in logistics infrastructure result in supply chain inefficiencies. "Auto components and automobile companies are exploring alternate sources of raw materials to reduce input costs, while logistics service providers must seek to adopt global models and standards to improve the supply chain efficiencies of their clients," said Srinath Manda, Program Manager, Transportation & Logistics Practice, Frost & Sullivan.
Importantly, they should look to plug security loopholes, as around 65 percent of Indian auto component companies declared that their most important concern in logistics is the risk of information leak to competitors through their logistics service providers (LSPs), while around 78 percent of Indian automobile companies declared that their most important concern in logistics is the safety of goods during transit and warehousing by LSPs.
Capability enhancement and qualified resources engagement is another need of the hour for LSPs as around 60 percent of auto component companies were apprehensive about their LSPs' ability to keep pace with evolving end-user volumes and technical requirements, while nearly 76 percent of automobile companies expressed that their second greatest apprehension was their LSPs' lack of skills and expertise in handling logistics needs, both within their own organization and at the LSPs.
LSPs should acquire modern transportation assets (vehicles and equipment) and modern warehousing assets (modern warehouses and material handling equipment) to reduce the scope of goods damage. They should also invest in advanced high-security information management systems to address security issues and offer customers complete visibility of their goods' movement. These systems should possess a high control security structure that can provide authorized information access, according to customers' requirements.
Currently, over two-thirds of end users employ multiple LSPs, since a single provider is inadequate to meet all their needs. Additionally, more than three-quarters of the Indian auto components industry participants have only one-year contracts with LSPs, indicating a high propensity to switch providers. "To address the challenge of matching the evolving end-user volumes and technical requirements, LSPs should work more closely with their customers to develop customized and mutually acceptable logistics solutions and standards of performance," noted Manda.
"In addition, LSPs should improve their recruitment strategies by hiring graduates from exclusive logistics institutes. They also need to undertake regular training programs for their staff to hone their skills in logistics and fulfil customer expectations," concluded Manda.

Gujarat Election Still Open, says Rediff's Sentimeter Algorithm
New tool enables Readers to predict poll outcome
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Thursday, December 06, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- Taking data journalism in India a step further, Rediff.com India Ltd today launched the Rediff Sentimeter, an interactive map-based tool that predicts who could win the Gujarat assembly election 2012.
The Rediff Sentimeter is based on the performance of each constituency in previous assembly elections in Gujarat and gives readers the overall forecast, as well as down to each constituency as readers click on it. It is also optimised for mobile platforms.
The Rediff Sentimeter also factors in the delimitation of constituencies and also takes into account the impact Keshubhai Patel's Gujarat Parivartan Party will have on the Bharatiya Janata Party's fortunes.
Contrary to what many opinion polls suggest, the Rediff Sentimeter reveals that the election result is not a certainty for any party. While Chief Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP remain the frontrunners, undecided voters in many constituencies could tilt the balance.

Thanks to The Rediff Sentimeter's in-built interactivity, readers now have the option of moving the slider to the BJP or Congress side to see how a swing to either party can change the outcome.

Google Edu Summit by EdTech in Partnership with InOpen- For the First Time in India
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Wednesday, December 05, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Google EdTech team organized a conference for educators, held at the American School of Bombay on 1st and 2nd December, 212. The conference aimed to empower educators by using Google Apps effectively in education. Such a workshop was held for the first time in India by the EdTech team. This was done in collaboration with InOpen Technologies, an IIT Bombay spinoff. It is to be noted that IIT Bombay and InOpen have come up with Computer Science curriculum after 6 years of intensive research and are currently impacting more than 4,00,000 children across the country.
The 'Google Apps for Education India Summit' focused on integrating Google Apps in Education to promote learning and achievement in students, teachers and school management. The event featured Google Certified Teachers and representatives from Google's Apps for Education team.
The summit included two keynote presentations from respected Googlers, Suan Yeo and Rushton Hurley, and other noted Educators. The presenters conducted sessions on Deployment & Management of cloud apps for education. Some of the familiar ones are Google Docs.
Suan Yeo, who heads Google Enterprise Education, spoke about the high value and importance of education, and how technology is that empowering tool that helps realize the former. Google is able to add top quality value to education by creating readily available free applications for use in education all over the world. Times have changed, and Suan does believe, "How we learned is not how our students learn", thus it is important to "Teach with technology, not teach technology". This is in sync with InOpen's Computer Masti ideology based on the TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge) model which operates on the FOSS (free and open source software) philosophy, just as Suan encourages Open Technology.
Presenting his talk on Thoughtful Technology, Mr. Rupesh Kumar Shah, CEO and Co-Founder, InOpen Technologies said, "Thanks to Google, technology is changing the way students across the globe learn. However, technology is not the path, it's just the enabler". In his session, he took a step back, while planning ahead in Google style, to speak about the right way to learn Computers or Technology.
According to the Edtech team at Google, 1.5 lakh businesses in India are already using Google Apps and now the focus is to target schools. The Google-EdTech team wants to deploy, integrate and use Google Apps for Education to promote student learning and achievement in both K-12 and higher education.
According to the Google Apps for Education Summit participants, the conference is the "Best professional development" course for them. They learn, they explore new technology and network with educators from around the world.
