USIBC Welcomes Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's First Full-Year Union Budget as a Bold Roadmap for Improving the Ease of Doing Business in India

The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) welcomes Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s Union Budget as a bold roadmap for improving the ease of doing business in India. The Council strongly supports many reforms announced in the budget targeted to encourage infrastructure development, modernize capital markets, reduce tax uncertainty, and spur domestic economic growth.
 
“We applaud Finance Minister Jaitley for today's ambitious reform agenda and welcome concrete policies that demonstrate the Government of India's commitment to a new era of growth,” said Dr. Mukesh Aghi, President of USIBC. “U.S. companies stand ready to partner with the Government of India on priority initiatives including Smart Cities, Make in India, Jan Dhan Yojana National Financial Inclusion Mission, Clean India, and Digital India. USIBC supports the commitment by the Government of India to expeditiously implement a Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime by April 2016. Once implemented, the GST will dramatically increase government revenue while streamlining operational and cost planning for businesses and could increase India’s GDP growth rate by 1-2% by establishing a “free-trade zone” within its own borders. A delay in implementation of the General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR) is a welcome move which will allow time for critical business planning. Reduction in the corporate tax rate and a more clear direct tax regime - both key announcements of this budget - will rejuvenate the investment outlook and increase predictability. 
 
Furthermore, USIBC applauds the Finance Minister's focus on infrastructure, including rejuvenation of public-private partnerships, the announcement of a National Infrastructure Investment Fund to provide public capital in support of increased private investment in infrastructure, and steps toward bankruptcy reform which will unlock liquidity in stalled projects. USIBC will continue to provide support in expediting the transformation of Ajmer, Allahabad, and Vizag into smart cities with American technology, capital, and expertise in the months and years ahead. 
 
Moreover, the industry body commends the Government of India on allowing foreign investment in Alternate Investment Funds as well as important steps toward developing a more robust pension system providing financial stability for all Indians.
 
USIBC supports Finance Minister Jaitley's assertion that a "quantum jump" forward is the change needed to kickstart India's next era of growth.

autoX,the fastest growing Indian motoring magazine, celebrates its 100th issue by successfully completing the 100-hour challenge, as well as having a 100km race between 3 modes of transport – a car, bike, and cycle.
 
autoX celebrates its 100th issue in March 2015 by creating its most exciting and unique issue yet. The aim of the ‘100-Hour Challenge’ was to cover almost 6,000 kilometres in 100-hours – the rationale being that achieving an average speed of 60km/h should be possible on the current network of Indian highways. In fact, the team managed to complete the 5,578-kilometre journey from Delhi-to-Kanyakumari, and back, in just 76-hours – proving that our road infrastructure, and especially the North-South corridor, is greatly improved. Their vehicle of choice for this gruelling challenge was the Audi A3 2.0 TDI. The car performed absolutely flawlessly for 76-hours non-stop, as it kept the team completely comfortable during this epic drive. To complete this challenge, the team crossed 9-states, paid 80-tolls, and filled 80-litres of diesel.
 
The second challenge to mark the 100th issue was a 100-kilometre race between three modes of transport – a car, bike, and cycle. The race was conducted at India’s only F1 track, the Buddh International Circuit, and the contestants consisted of the Mini Cooper D, Triumph Daytona 675, and 6 cyclists from Team Kinshi– an amateur road-racing team from Chandigarh. The 20-lap race covered 102.8-kilometres. The bike won with a time of 57 minutes and 10.6 seconds, followed by the car just 2.5 seconds behind, while the fastest cyclist managed to complete this gruelling test of endurance in 3 hours, 13 minutes and 47 seconds. In addition to these two exclusive features, the 100th issue also includes test-drives of the new Hyundai Verna and VW Jetta, a ride of the highly anticipated Scrambler Ducati, and a look at the next generation Audi R8 supercar and Porsche Cayenne SUV – and, of course, much-much more.

Are passengers, airports and airlines aligned?

The ‘connected passenger’ has become a reality, with 97% of airline passengers carrying at least one personal electronic device. But global usage rates indicate passengers have been slow to adopt new airline and airport mobile services when traveling. Deeper analysis however, shows that some industry players are bucking the trend and achieving high levels of usage. This is according to The Future is Personal, the latest industry report from SITA, the leading global IT provider to the air transport industry.
 
SITA’s industry insights are based on in-depth research directly with more than 6,000 passengers; carried out at 106 airports across the world which handled 2.35 billion passengers last year and with airlines that together carried more than half the world’s passenger traffic. The research shows airlines have made significant investments in mobile services over the past four years as smartphone adoption surged and the majority now enable passengers to buy tickets, check-in and access flight information via smartphone apps. Meanwhile half of the worlds’ airports also provide flight information via apps.
 
Still global rollout and adoption is proving to be slower and more complex than was anticipated. Half of passengers are keen to use their mobiles to find their way around the airport, access lounges or the aircraft, provide identification at checkpoints, or make payments. The reality is though, that despite these and other services, including mobile check-in and boarding passes provided by airlines, 24% of passengers have not yet used travel apps at all on their journey.
 
Nigel Pickford, Director Market Insight, SITA, said: “At a glance, airlines and airports might be discouraged by the slower than expected global usage rates but this hides the huge success that some airlines and airports are experiencing. Our analysis has shown that the successful ’outliers’, be they airports or airlines, are focusing on providing excellent customer service experiences that their passengers want. They are harnessing new technologies to give personalized services at the right moment of the journey.”
 
SITA’s report details the desire for passengers to experience personalized services throughout their journey and explains how personalization is now expected both on the ground and in-flight. This era of continuous engagement means that passengers also expect to be kept informed during periods of disruption and given the ability to manage the changing circumstances of their journey.

Anna University Alumni Club Wins the 'Bahwan CyberTek - Anna University' Twenty20 Cup
The Finals of the 18th edition of the tournament saw the Alumni Club battle against eight city clubs to reach the top spot

The intra-city competition saw participation from premier clubs in Chennai which included Alumni Club, Madras Gymkhana Club, Madras Cricket Club, Indira Nagar Club, Presidency Club, The Mylapore Club, T Nagar Social Club and Gandhi Nagar Club.
                     
In the final match that was held at the SPIC YMCA Ground last week, the Alumni Club – Anna University played a spirited game scoring 155/7 to beat the Indira Nagar Club to claim the top spot. Alumni Club - Anna University, won the trophy defeating Indira Nagar Club convincingly in the finals. Alumni Club’s R. Nikhilesh won the ‘Man of the finals’ and Badhri Kidambi won the ‘Man of the Tournament’ Award.

Vehicles exchanging information about traffic conditions, industrial machines with self-checking diagnostics, intelligent tracking of the supply chain or surveillance of utility meters in remote areas: in the connected world, devices will increasingly rely on secured cellular Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication for automated data exchange. Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY), a leading provider of hardware-based security for cellular M2M communications, today announced its new SLM 97 and SLI 97 security controller families. The new products stand out with unique features required for M2M communication in industrial as well as automotive applications such as emergency Call (eCall) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication.
 
ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, notes the fast growth of M2M communication and the preference for cellular-based M2M solutions where mobility is required, or where high data volumes or data transfer rates are involved.
 
And market research firm IHS forecasts that the worldwide market for cellular modules in M2M communication will grow from 88 million unit shipments in 2015 to 167 million units in 2018 with a CAGR of 24 per cent.

With the launch of the new SLM 97 and SLI 97 product families, Infineon strengthens its position in the growing industrial M2M and connected car markets. The new products enable the full implementation of embedded SIM as defined by GSMA and ETSI, increasing flexibility and simplifying the deployment of new M2M solutions.
 
Both SLM 97 and SLI 97 provide
 

  • an extended temperature range from -40° to 105°C and high endurance for operation in demanding industrial and automotive environments
  • up to 1MB SOLID FLASH™ memory, allowing fast prototyping and shortening time-to-market for device manufacturers
  • a set of hardware crypto-coprocessors supporting all relevant crypto schemes     
  • a wide range of interfaces including ISO7816, SWP, USB, I2C, SPI to address a large variety of industrial and automotive applications 
  • Common Criteria EAL 5+ (High) certification

 
The SLM 97 security controllers are tailored to industrial M2M applications requiring high endurance and robustness. They are qualified according to internationally recognized industrial standards and delivered in standard embedded M2M packages as well as in standard SIM card module.
 
The SLI 97 security controllers are qualified according to the high quality automotive standards (AEC-Q100) and tailored to the difficult environmental conditions of automotive applications. They pass through exhaustive quality processes to minimize failure rates. This makes them the perfect products for SIM cards or embedded security products in connected cars.
