Records a New 25,000 Participation Figure for the Race
Bangalore, Karnataka, India and San Francisco, CA, United States, Tuesday, July 31, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- "The Wipro San Francisco Marathon" (TWSFM) was run Sunday, July 29th, 2012 and culminated with the winners taking home the spoils.
Nathan Krah and Devon Crosby-Helms were the winners of The 2012 Wipro San Francisco Marathon. Krah, a 26-year-old resident of Salt Lake City, completed the hilly 26.2-mile course in 2:26:45, while Crosby-Helms' winning time was 2:44:05. Both athletes claimed a prize purse of $1,500.
Crosby-Helms, a resident of San Anselmo in Marin County and founder of Fast Foodie, a personal chef service, competed in the 2012 US Olympic Marathon Trials in January and finished third in last year's San Francisco Marathon.
After his win, Krah, a Ph.D candidate in human genetics at the University of Utah said, "Even coming from a mountainous area, this was still really hard. It was just an endless assault of hills." Crosby-Helms said of her victory, "That was extremely satisfying. This was my third time racing here, and I really felt I had a good chance to win."
The Wipro San Francisco Marathon this year drew more than 7,000 runners, a marked increase from the 4,000 who finished in 2006. Another 18,000 runners participated in the race's two separate half marathons, as well as a 5K and Munchkins Kids Fun Run. That total reflects a new record participation figure for the race.
The 25,000 total runners bring a significant economic benefit to San Francisco and its immediate area, according to a recently-released economic impact study commissioned by the race. According to 2010 participant data, the randomized study found an estimated $38,000,000 in direct economic impact, from participant spending in such areas as lodging, shopping, food and beverages, entertainment and attractions and local travel.
Thirty-eight hardy runners took part in the first-annual "Worth The Hurt" double-marathon, departing the start/finish line on San Francisco's Embarcadero at midnight Sunday to run the course in reverse. After running much of the night, those runners then turned around, and ran the regular course with the rest of the marathon field for a total distance on the day of 52.4 miles.
Those 38 runners raised more than $22,000 through Worth the Hurt - The Wipro San Francisco Marathon's new charity platform, while the event organizers donated a total of $145,000 to local charities.

The Wall Street Journal has called The San Francisco Marathon, "the race even marathoners fear." But anyone who has run the race will tell you that the marathon's tagline, "Worth the Hurt," is true. It is worth the hurt.
The Marathon is known for its scenic views and is the only race that runs through the roadbed of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Wipro San Francisco Marathon is a loop course that starts and finishes on the Embarcadero and runs along the waterfront of San Francisco Bay through Fisherman's Wharf, the Marina, across the Golden Gate Bridge and back, through the Presidio and into Golden Gate Park. After a tour through Golden Gate Park it runs through the famous Haight Ashbury section (of 60's fame) and through the Mission, Potrero and Mission Bay Districts then down behind AT&T Park (home of the San Francisco Giants) and then back along the waterfront under the Bay Bridge and up to the Finish Line.
LoCura, the Bay Area based band in partnership with Rock the Bike welcomed the runners at the Finish line with their distinctive styled music which mixes Latin styles like Rumba Flamenca, Cuban rhythms, Cumbia, and Ska.
Ayan Mukerji and Neeti Narang of Wipro Technologies were the Grand Marshals and held the tape at the Finish Line for the winners.
The Wipro Team challenge is a new addition to The Wipro San Francisco Marathon. Teams with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 members could register as Co-ed, All Male, All Female, University Alumni or as a Corporate team. The teams competed in the Full Marathon, the Half Marathon and the 5k run. The fastest team in each of these races will be the proud recipient of the newly instituted Wipro Team Challenge Awards.
The race got extensive coverage on Twitter and Facebook, and averaged about 3-4 tweets per hour inviting people to visit the race and cheer on runners. Visitors to the microsite could explore a Bing Social map which showed live tweets from around the world that were talking about the marathon.

Polaris Wireless, the global leader in high-accuracy, software-based wireless location solutions, today announced it has successfully completed field trials with a Tier I Indian wireless operator's 3G network to prove compliance with India's Department Of Telecommunications (DoT) May 2011 mandate for location-based services. The trials were conducted in the Kolkata metropolitan area to demonstrate the effectiveness of Polaris Wireless Location Signatures (Polaris WLSTM) in urban 3G networks. The company announced in April that it had exceeded the DoT mandate in trials held in suburban and rural environments and remote areas in North-East region for a 2G network. Previous trials in Bangalore also exceeded the DoT requirements in urban and indoor environments, but this is the first such trial in a 3G network environment in India. Polaris WLSTM is based on the 3GPP standardized RF Pattern Matching (RFPM) approach.
The DoT mandate specifies accuracy levels of 30 to 95 percent within two years of adoption for a range of 50 to 300 meters in urban areas. Polaris Wireless achieved accuracy levels of 62 to 99 percent in the 3G field trials in Kolkata. Combined with its previous trial results, Polaris Wireless is the first location solutions provider to exceed the DoT mandate in all radio access technologies (2G/3G) across all environments, proving the attainability of the mandate benchmarks.

The trials were conducted in the Kolkata metropolitan area to demonstrate the effectiveness of Polaris Wireless Location Signatures (Polaris WLSTM) in urban 3G networks. The company announced in April that it had exceeded the DoT mandate in trials held in suburban and rural environments and remote areas in North-East region for a 2G network. Previous trials in Bangalore also exceeded the DoT requirements in urban and indoor environments, but this is the first such trial in a 3G network environment in India. Polaris WLSTM is based on the 3GPP standardized RF Pattern Matching (RFPM) approach.
The DoT mandate specifies accuracy levels of 30 to 95 percent within two years of adoption for a range of 50 to 300 meters in urban areas. Polaris Wireless achieved accuracy levels of 62 to 99 percent in the 3G field trials in Kolkata. Combined with its previous trial results, Polaris Wireless is the first location solutions provider to exceed the DoT mandate in all radio access technologies (2G/3G) across all environments, proving the attainability of the mandate benchmarks.

The first-ever National Summit on Energy Efficiency in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)--organised by SAMEEEKSHA, a joint forum comprisingThe Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Embassy of Switzerland, India and Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises-- commenced with fanfare in New Delhi today.
The inaugural session of the Summit featured eminent luminaries and veteran experts including Director General, TERI, Dr. R.K. Pachauri, Ambassador of Switzerland in India, Dr. Linus von Castelmur, Director General, BEE, Dr. Ajay Mathur and Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Mr. R.K. Mathur.
The need to organise this first-of-its-kind event stemmed from the extensive work carried out by TERI in the MSME sector since 1994, with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the BEE, the French Development Agency (AfD), the German Development Agency (GIZ), UNIDO, the World Bank and other donors. Through this platform, the goal has been to obtain energy savings of 20 to 30 percent in MSMEs, thereby reducing CO2 emissions in select energy intensive small scale industry sectors.
Over the years, the cumulative impact of SAMEEEKSHA's joint efforts has been tangible and visible both at the national as well as local scale. Nearly 582,000 tonnes of cumulative reduction of CO2 levels in the MSME sector has been achieved till date. The goal is to reduce 1,000,000 tonnes of CO2 in energy-intensive MSMEs by the end of 2014.
Addressing the gathering, Director General of TERI, Dr. R.K. Pachauri, said, "The MSME sector offers enormous potential for initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency and overall development. Yet, this potential has till recently been matched "in the reverse" by the low levels of attention to this important sector. The government can play an enabling role in facilitating changes."
There are an estimated 26 million MSME units providing employment to nearly 70 million people in India and the sector accounts for about 45% of India's industrial production and 40% of exports.
However, a large number of these MSME units are energy intensive, with energy accounting for up to 40% of their production costs. In many of these units, the adoption of energy efficient (EE) technology and best operating practices offer enormous potential for energy savings, reduction in CO2 emissions as well as profitability enhancement.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the National Summit, the Ambassador of Switzerland to India, H.E Dr Linus von Castelmur said, "Switzerland is proud to be working with MSME sector in India for over 18 years, with innovative partner networks to design technologies, demonstrate and disseminate energy efficient technologies and by creating enabling environment."
He further added that these technology interventions had resulted in "co-benefits for climate through avoided emissions and for development in terms of local jobs and energy security in the MSME clusters."
Lauding the initiative, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Dr. Ajay Mathur, said, "The government has enabled capacity building and pushed enterprises towards energy efficiency. Our challenge is replication of technologies. We look for stronger collaboration with our partners and stakeholders."
The official website of SAMEEEKSHA initiative was also launched at the event, followed by the release of a French Development Agency (AfD) report on benchmarking and mapping energy consumption in Indian MSMEs. The study was conducted by TERI under the overall support and guidance of AfD, BEE and French Environment & Energy Management Agency (ADEME).

Steria's First Half 2012 Results Organic Revenue Growth of 3.3% Operating margin of 5.1%
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Monday, July 30, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- -- In a deteriorating first half environment, the Group's activity remained robust with like-for-like revenue growth of +3.3%, highlighting a profile and positioning adapted to a market undergoing transformation.
-- The good commercial momentum was reflected in the pipeline which remains at the level equivalent to that of December 2011 (1.9x projected sales) and 9.3% growth in new orders, leading to an increased book to bill ratio of 1.11 at June 30, 2012.
-- Under the effect of significant pricing pressure and an increase in the inter-contract rate, the operating margin contracted by ?5.9 million on a comparable basis, resulting in a margin rate of 5.1% versus 6.1% during the first half of 20112 .
-- For the full year 2012, the Group expects an operating margin rate of above 6.0%.
-- The Group is working on a project with an objective to generate, on an annual basis, between ?15 million and ?18 million of additional cost savings.
On July 26, 2012, the Supervisory Board of Groupe Steria SCA examined the consolidated financial statements submitted by the General Management.
Second quarter 2012 activity
Second quarter revenues showed organic growth of 0.7% (on a calendar base averaging one day less than in 2011), leading to a 3.3% increase over the first half (calendar base identical to 2011).
This performance was achieved within a weaker trading environment, characterised by pressure on volumes and prices. Within this context, the Group's activity thus demonstrated strong resilience highlighting a profile and positioning adapted to client expectations in a market undergoing a rapid transformation. For example, the recent launches of Workplace On Command, RightApps Management and RightSecurity Services offerings were well received by the market.
Over the quarter, the Group benefited from growth in the Public Sector (+1%), Insurance (+6%), Utilities (+9%) and Transport (+27%) sectors. Banking (-2%) and Telecommunications (-10%) were, however, negatively orientated.
New orders saw strong growth over the quarter in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, driving a 9.3% increase in orders for the whole of the first half relative to the previous year.
At June 30, 2012, the Group's book to bill ratio stood at a satisfactory 1.11 (1.03 at June 30, 2011) and at 1.09 for the only cyclical activities, consulting and systems integration (0.94 at June 30, 2011). As of the same date, the pipeline, measured as a multiple of revenue, amounted to 1.9x (comparable to its level of December 31, 2011).
-- In the United Kingdom, on a like-for-like basis, second quarter revenue growth amounted to 3.4% thanks to the positive trend in the Public sector (+8%), driven by increased activity with the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Justice and the NHS through the NHS SBS entity. New orders saw a strong progression during the second quarter bringing the increase for the first half to 5.1%. At June 30, 2012, the book to bill ratio stood at 1.0 (0.94 at June 30, 2011).
-- In France, like-for-like growth was 4.8% (+9.3% for the first half), driven by strong momentum in the Banking, Insurance and Transport sectors, the latter having been underpinned in particular by the EcoTax contract. There were a number of large contract wins in IT infrastructure transformation (Canal+, JC Decaux, large Ministries, etc.) and information systems transformation including application maintenance activities (a major European bank, public sector, energy sector, etc.). New orders were sharply higher in the second quarter propelling first half order growth to 37.7%. At June 30, 2012, the book to bill ratio stood at 1.32 (1.05 at June 30, 2011).
-- In Germany, organic growth was -6.0% over the quarter (-4.2% for the first half), having been impacted by the difficult situation in the banking sector which represents a large proportion of the Group's revenue in this country. Activity was affected by project delays and significant price pressure. Inversely, new orders, including the Business Intelligence and Application Maintenance areas, experienced an acceleration during the second quarter amounting, at June 30, 2012, to a total identical to that of the previous year. At end June 2012, the book to bill ratio was 1.21 (1.16 at June 30, 2011).
-- The Other Europe region posted a like-for-like decline of 7.2% (-2.1% for the first half), marked by an unfavourable base effect in Scandinavia and Belgium with the ending of the large European projects (Schengen and Visa impact) and by a lengthening in the decision-making cycle, particularly in Scandinavia.
Results for the first half 2012
The first half was marked by stronger pricing pressure than the Group's initial expectations, with the negative impact on the operating margin amounting to some 100 basis points. Most of this effect was offset by productivity gains generated by the transformation programmes deployed across the Group.
At the same time, the climate of extreme caution prevailing amongst clients, marked by project cancellations and delays, was reflected, across the quasi-totality of the Group's geographies, by an increase in the average inter-contract rate relative to the first half 2011 (estimated impact ?6 million).
As a result, despite higher volumes, the Group's operating margin contracted to ?47 million versus ?52.9 million2 in the first half of 2011, resulting in an operating margin rate of 5.1%.
Other operating income and expenses for the half year represented a net expense of ?6.2 million versus a net expense of ?20.7 million in the previous year and notably included ?9 million of net restructuring charges, a non-cash charge of ?7.8 million corresponding to the amortisation of actuarial losses linked to the pension schemes and a ?12.1 million gain linked to the application of the accounting treatment following the NHS SBS full consolidation of from January 1, 2012.
Taking into account a financial result of -?4.2 million and income tax expense of ?8.4 milllion, underlying attributable net income amounted to ?27.5 million versus ?38.3 million in the previous year.
Outlook
The Group is working on a project with an objective to generate, on an annual basis, between ?15 million and ?18 million of additional cost savings.
In an uncertain environment, for the full year 2012, the Group expects like-for-like revenue growth of between +2% and +3.0% and an operating margin rate of above 6.0%.

Hockey India entered into a multi-year broadcast agreement with leading sports broadcaster ESPN STAR Sports to exclusively broadcast the soon to be launched Hockey India League (HIL). ESPN STAR Sports will also cover all international hockey test matches under Hockey India to be played in India for the next 5 years.
In a multi-year deal, ESPN STAR Sports has been granted global telecast rights for the professional hockey league. The FIH approved league will see the best of national as well as international hockey stars showcase their prowess. The first edition of the league is expected to be played in the month of January 2013. The league will comprise of at least six franchise hockey teams and will feature 33 hockey matches to be played in prime time in state-of-the-art stadia across the country. All teams will play each other on a home and away basis (30 league matches) followed by 2 semifinals and the final.
Hockey India further announced that ESPN STAR Sports has the global broadcast rights to telecast at least 5 international hockey test matches every year under Hockey India to be played in India for the next 5 years. The number of matches that India will play against top quality international opposition could go up depending on the finalization of the series schedule.
Hockey India Secretary General and Chairman, Hockey India League, Dr. Narinder Batra, said, "We are delighted to have ESPN STAR Sports as our broadcast partners. The first edition of the league is expected to be played in the month of January 2013. The league will comprise of at least six franchise hockey teams and will feature 33 hockey matches to be played in prime time in state-of-the-art stadia across the country. All teams will play each other on a home and away basis (30 league matches) followed by 2 semifinals and the final.
Hockey India further announced that ESPN STAR Sports has the global broadcast rights to telecast at least 5 international hockey test matches every year under Hockey India to be played in India for the next 5 years. The number of matches that India will play against top quality international opposition could go up depending on the finalization of the series schedule.

GVK Bioscience's Ahmedabad Clinical Pharmacology Unit Successfully Clears the USFDA Audit
Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, Monday, July 30, 2012 -- (Business Wire India) -- GVK Biosciences, Asia's leading Contract Research Organization today announced that its Ahmedabad Clinical Pharmacology Unit successfully cleared the US FDA Audit with zero 483s/observations from the agency. USFDA visited and audited a First-to-File study for one of GVK BIO's customers.
The GVK BIO Ahmedabad facility, commissioned in 2010, has 3 clinics with 110 beds. The facility has been inspected and approved by Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), ANVISA-Brazil and Ministry of Health (MoH)-Turkey. The Ahmedabad facility carries out Bioavailability and Bioequivalence (BA/BE) studies that are submitted to various regulatory agencies including FDA, TGA (Australia), European Regulatory agencies, Health Canada, ANVISA-Brazil and MoH (Turkey).

This inspection was the first joint inspection of a CRO by the four agencies. GVK BIO received zero 483s by FDA in this joint inspection. The GVK BIO Hyderabad facility is a full service provider of BA/BE services with 4 clinics and 144 beds supported by a bioanalytical facility with 16 LC-MS/MS machines. The Hyderabad facility has been inspected and approved by various regulatory agencies like DCGI, ANVISA-Brazil, MoH (Turkey), FDA, AFSSAPS (France), WHO and MHRA.
