According to '99acres Insite' - a quarterly report on property price trends released by 99acres.com, India's No.1 Property Portal, Oct - Dec 2008 has been the worst quarter during 2008. Property prices faced pressure and continued to spiral down in Oct- Dec' 08. Some of the most affected cities included Delhi - NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai, and the worst hit localities included Miyapur in Hyderabad and Rajarhat in Kolkata.
"I expect the trend to continue for a few more quarters until prices bottom out and the market stabilizes on the interest rate front, which will make the market lucrative for the consumers to re-enter," said Vineet Singh, Business Head, 99acres.com
The report compiles the asking rates (price demanded by the seller/builder/broker) of residential apartments (2-3BHK apartments) for buy/rent. It presents a trend of property prices and rentals across top cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune.
Delhi - NCR
Buy: Property prices in Delhi declined during Oct-Dec '08 as compared to the previous quarter (July-Sep '08). Dwarka witnessed a steep decline by 15%. Noida experienced a sharp drop of upto 20% while Gurgaon witnessed a further decline in property prices by 7-8%.
Rent: Rentals in Delhi witnessed varying trends during Oct- Dec '08 as compared to the previous quarter, with some localities like Rohini, Vasundra Enclave, Lajpat Nagar witnessing an increase in rentals by about 20% while others such as Connaught Place, Vasant Kunj, Malviya Nagar and Janakpuri saw a steep decline of about 15%. Noida saw a decline by about 15% in rentals, while Gurgaon was stable.
Mumbai
Buy: The Mumbai Realty market saw a decline in property prices during Oct-Dec '08 as compared to the previous quarter. Localities such as Bhayander (East), Vashi and Thane West saw a drop in property prices by 10%
The rental market in Mumbai shows a mixed trend. Rentals in Prabhadevi, Breach Candy saw an increase by over 50% while rentals in Dahisar, Seawoods and Kharghar saw a decline by over 20% as compared to the previous quarter.
Kolkata
Buy : Property prices continued to decline in Kolkata during Oct-Dec'08 as compared to the previous quarter (July- Sep '08). Prices at EM Bypass declined by 17% while Rajarhat saw a decline in prices by 25%.
Rent: Rentals stabilized during Oct- Dec '08 as compared to the previous quarter. However, some localities like Alipore and Jadhav Pur continued on an upward trend, witnessing an increase of over 20%.
Chennai
Buy: In Chennai, Oct-Dec '08 saw a steep decline in property prices in some localities as compared to the previous quarter. Perungudi and Valalsaravakkam saw a decline in prices by 15-20%.
Rent: Rentals declined during Oct-Dec '08 as compared to the previous quarter. Localities ilke Kilpauk, T. Nagar and Medavakkam registered a steep drop of over 20%.
Bangalore
Buy: Bangalore was one of the first cities to get affected by the slowdown, where property prices declined steeply round the year. However Oct - Dec '08 saw a stability in property prices as compared to the previous quarter.
Rent: Rentals in Bangalore slipped in Oct - Dec '08 with areas like Thipassandra, Maleshpalaya and Kaggadasapura witnessing a decline in rates of over 25%.
Hyderabad
Buy: Severely affected by the slowdown, property prices in Hyderabad have declined steeply in Oct-Dec '08 as compared to the previous quarter. Property prices in Madhapur declined by 11% while Miyapur saw a decline by 25%.
Rent: Most of the localities in Hyderabad have seen a landslide in rentals in the period of Oct - Dec 2008 as compared to the previous quarter. Miyapur and Nizampet have seen a correction in rental prices by more than 20%, and some of the other popular places like Somajiguda and Madhapur saw a decline by over 30%.

Goafest 2009 Creative Abby Entries Exceeds Last Year's Number
Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- The Creative Abby entries in Goafest 2009 have exceeded last year's number. This year 4494 entries have been received as compared to 4172 last year.
These include entries from Advertising, Direct, Digital Interactive, Film Craft, and the newly introduced Design categories.
Advertising entries alone totaled 3706 with print, out of home, film, radio and integrated attracting a large chunk of them.
Twenty eight companies have sent in 229 entries in the Direct category. The fast growing Digital Interactive Category has had 175 entries from 35 companies. Twenty two film production companies have sent in 206 entries. There are 32 companies who have sent in 178 entries in the Design category.
The jury chairpersons are Ravi Deshpande in Print, K V Sridhar in Out of Home, Piyush Pandey in Integrated, Prasoon Joshi in Film, K S Chakravarthy in Radio, Rakshin Patel in Direct, Bobby Pawar in Digital Interactive, Ram Madhvani in Film Craft and Elsie Nanji in Design categories. A total of 90 judges have been involved in 9 juries.

Sir John Hegarty, Chairman & Worldwide Creative Director of Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) began his career in advertising as a junior Art Director at Benton and Bowles, London, in 1965. He next worked with a small agency, John Collings & Partners.
In 1967 he joined Cramer Saatchi consultancy which later became Saatchi & Saatchi in 1970, where he was a founding shareholder. A year later he was appointed Deputy Creative Director.
Sir John left Saatchi & Saatchi in 1973 to co-found TBWA, London, as Creative Director. The agency was the first to be voted Campaign magazine's Agency of the Year in 1980.
He left TBWA in 1982 to co-found Bartle Bogle Hegarty. Four years later in 1986, BBH was voted Campaign's Agency of the Year, and won the title once again in 1993. In addition, BBH became the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival's very first Agency of the Year in 1993. It also won the title again in 1994.
Hegarty has been responsible for numerous accolades for the agency. Hegarty has won over 15 Clios alone, and his Levi's 501 work is in the Clio Hall of Fame. Citibank Reduces Mortgage Prime Rate by 50 Basis Points to 13.75%
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- Citibank today announced a reduction in its Mortgage Prime Rate by 50 basis points. Effective immediately, the new Citibank Mortgage Prime Rate will be 13.75 percent. The percentage of revision for loans on variable rates will be 0.50 percent and the advantage of this downward revision in CMPR will be passed to all existing mortgage customers with floating rate loans from April 1st 2009.
This is the second time in the last three months that Citibank has reduced its CMPR. The key rate has now been reduced by a total of 100 bps since January 2009.

New Delhi, Goa, India, Tuesday, March 31, 2009 -- (Business Wire India) -- Intel Corporation introduced 17 enterprise-class processors today, led by the Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series. They are Intel's most revolutionary server processors since addressing the market with the Intel Pentium® Pro processor almost 15 years ago.
The new enterprise-class chips can automatically adjust to specified energy usage levels, and speed data center transactions and customer database queries. They also will play a key role in scientific discoveries by researchers who use supercomputers as their foundation for research, all whilst delivering great energy efficiency for reduced electricity costs.
The Intel Xeon processor 5500 series, previously codenamed "Nehalem-EP," offers several breakthrough technologies that radically improve system speed and versatility. Technologies such as Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, integrated power gates, and Next-Generation Intel Virtualization Technology (VT) improved through extended page tables, allow the system to adapt to a broad range of workloads.

New Embedded Processors Unveiled
The L5518 and L5508 are versions of Intel Xeon processors that were tailored specifically for communications market segments. These processors include options ideal for applications in thermally constrained environments, such as blades and appliances for communication infrastructure, security, storage, medical applications, carrier-grade rackmount servers, router modules and even submarine technology. The L5518 offers 2.13 GHz and a power level of 60 watts. The L5508 offers 2.00 GHz and a power level of 38 watts. New communications and embedded processors feature 7-year extended lifecycle support; these new chips will enable the technology of the future, such as WiMAX, video-on-demand and holographic communications.
New Component Products
Intel is also announcing new server boards that offer a higher degree of integrated components. In addition, the company is announcing the Intel 82599 10 Gigabit Ethernet Controller, featuring advanced virtualization technology and unified networking support, which greatly improves network I/O performance in virtualized datacenters. It is optimized to support the increased bandwidth provided by platforms based on the Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series, which provides more than 250 percent the I/O throughput of previous-generation servers to best meet the needs of the most demanding virtualization applications.
Also available today is the Intel Data Center Manager software development kit that enables management console vendors to extend platform power control and set rack and datacenter level power policies dynamically, responding to changing server workloads to ensure that racks do not exceed those power levels.
For server applications, processor frequencies peak at 2.93 GHz with DDR3 memory speeds up to 1333 MHz and power levels of from 60 to 95 watts. Under certain conditions, Intel Turbo Boost Technology can provide operating frequencies up to 3.33 GHz, depending on the processor and system configuration. Workstation frequencies go up to 3.20 GHz with power levels of 130 watts, and up to 3.46GHz using Intel Turbo Boost Technology depending on the workload and environment. Each processor contains up to 8MB of level 3 cache.

Leveraging published reports and information gathered from its network, Akamai's quarterly report provides insight into key Internet statistics such as origin of attack traffic, network outages and broadband connectivity levels across the globe.
As the Company's fourth published edition, the report also now provides a full-year view, as well as a quarterly view, into trends. The India specific trends include:

Attack Traffic
During the fourth quarter of 2008, Akamai observed attack traffic originating from 193 unique countries around the world, up nearly 8% from the third quarter count of 179 countries. In the fourth quarter, the United States moved into first place for the first time in 2008, after placing second to either China or Japan throughout the year. Throughout 2008, the United States, China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan were consistently among the top 10 countries that generated the highest percentages of attack traffic.
Broadband Connectivity
Through its globally-deployed server network, and by virtue of the billions of requests for Web content that it services on a daily basis, Akamai has a unique level of visibility into the connection speeds of those systems issuing the requests, and as such, of broadband adoption around the globe. In the fourth quarter of 2008, the State of the Internet report began tracking average connection speeds for countries around the world.
Current highlights and historical trends for average connection speeds on a global basis can be found in Akamai's new data visualization tool, available at http://www.akamai.com/dv5. This "Global Broadband Adoption" tool has been added to Akamai's suite of data visualization tools, available at http://www.akamai.com/html/technology/visualizing_akamai.html, which include views into global attack traffic, network latency and packet loss, and traffic on the Akamai network, as well as Akamai's popular Net Usage Indices for Retail, News and Music.
In the fourth quarter of 2008, only six countries connected to Akamai's network at average speeds in excess of 5 Mbps, and for the year, many countries showed significant increases in their levels of high broadband (>5 Mbps) adoption.
Fastest International Countries
At the end of 2008, approximately 19% of Internet connections around the world were at speeds greater than 5 Mbps, representing a 21% increase over the average global connection speed at the end of 2007. In line with their average connection speed of 15 Mbps, and their appearance at the top of the list for the prior three quarters, South Korea once again ranked as the country with the highest percentage of connections at high broadband (>5 Mbps) speeds. Looking at the levels of high broadband penetration in the fourth quarter, South Korea, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway had more high broadband IP's per capita than in the prior quarter. This is consistent with what would be expected from the initiatives to bring higher-speed connectivity, including Fiber-to-the-Home efforts, to consumers in these countries.
