Source : Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust Thursday, July 21, 2016 2:58PM IST (9:28AM GMT)   JN Port Becomes First Port in the Country to Implement Logistics Data Bank Tagging of Containers   Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India JN Port becomes first port in the country to implement the logistic data bank tagging of containers, first of its kind facility which will help importer/exporter track their goods in transit through logistics data bank service. Logistics Data Bank will provide the service of tracking the containers on near real-time basis using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology while containers are being transported through railways and trucks on major highways through the portal www.ldb.co.in. An RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Tag) tag would be attached with each container which would be tracked through RFID readers installed at different locations. This would provide the ‘Visibility’ and ‘Transparency’ of the EXIM Container Movement by covering the entire movement through Rail or Road till the ICDs and CFSs. This service will integrate the information available with various agencies across the supply chain to provide detailed real time information within a single window. The LDB service coverage would be increased on a continual basis starting with JNPT Port from 11th July, 2016 onwards. This would help in reducing the overall lead time of the container movement across the western corridor and lower the transaction costs incurred by the shippers and consignees. This has been one of the important Ease of Doing Business initiatives implemented at JN Port focused towards document, time and cost reduction for the benefit of Trade.   The Tariff Authority at Major Ports (TAMP) has authorized JNPT to collect the Mandatory User Charges (MUC) of Rs.125/- (Excluding Service Tax) for all the containers entering and exiting the three port terminals of JNPT for the Logistics Data Bank (LDB) Project during the year 2016-17 and to increase the rate by Rs.10/- per container in the next two years. The MUC will be collected for all the containers entering and exiting from the three port terminals of JNPT at the rate mentioned above starting from 11th July, 2016.     MoU for creation of Logistic Data Bank tagging of containers was signed during MIS 2016 with Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC). A SPV has been formed between DMIC Trust and NEC Corporation, Japan namely “DMICDC Logistics Data Services Limited” (DLDSL) to provide the LDB service.
