IIIT Naya Raipur (IIIT-NR), set up with a vision to nurture the next generation IT entrepreneurs and industry-oriented professionals, has been dedicated to the nation today by Hon’ble Minister Shri Piyush Goyal. The Minster also launched the Institute’s website in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr. Raman Singh and announced an innovation lab to be set up by NTPC in the Institute. IIIT-NR is an initiative of the Govt. of Chhattisgarh started with the support of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Ltd.
Led by an empowered Board, with eminent members such as Mr. Ajai Chowdhry (Founder HCL) and Dr. A. Paulraj (Marconi Awardee), the campus is spread across 50 acres and boasts of the best-in-class facilities including smart classrooms, well-equipped labs and gigabit internet connectivity (the National Knowledge Network -NKN). The aesthetically designed and spacious campus is ready to welcome its first batch of students from this academic session i.e. August 2015, offering B.Tech in CSE & ECE.
IIIT-NR is bringing together an ecosystem of industry and knowledge partners to provide students access to resources needed to excel. Set up with an investment of Rs. 200Cr and with a scholarship fund of Rs 18Cr, the Institute is looking forward to attract the best of faculty and students into its fold. With collaborations being established with PSUs, IT industry, local academic institutions and Government, the Institute is gearing up to become the hub for the innovation ecosystem in Chhattisgarh.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Raman Singh, Chief Minister said “I am happy that Hon’ble Minister Shri Piyush Goyal has taken time out to inaugurate the IIIT-NR campus. Joining hands with NTPC Ltd., we believe that our Government has created a golden opportunity for Chhattisgarh to contribute in earnest to the 'Make in India' effort. In the best interest of incoming students, I am happy to announce that we are waiving off the 1st year fee of all students joining in 2015-16.”
Speaking on the occasion Shri Prem Prakash Pandey, Minister of Higher Education said “Realizing the importance of new technologies for socio-economic development, the Govt. of Chhattisgarh has launched multiple initiatives. One such effort is establishment of IIIT-NR in the smart city Naya Raipur. We encourage the local industry and other institutions to leverage this knowledge hub to create solutions which will put Chhattisgarh further ahead on the road to creating a Digital India as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.”
Principal Secretary Technical Education, Smt Renu G Pillay said, “We are proud to have been able to create an Institute par excellence in Chhattisgarh. With the country making rapid progress in the IT sector, we need to build an ecosystem with technical education of global standards. We are confident of IIIT-NR producing some of the best talent in the country.”
Commenting on the inauguration, Shri Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman, IIIT Naya Raipur, said, “Indian young are rearing to take its IT success to newer heights. With IIIT-NR we want to create professionals for today and tomorrow's IT industry as well as foster job creators with our focus on entrepreneurship. My vision is to develop an environment that promotes cutting-edge innovation to create solutions for the new world. We believe in application of knowledge to create demand-driven solutions for the industry, Government and society at-large. That is the best way to script a new chapter in India’s IT success story. ”
Dr. B.K. Gairola, Director, IIIT, Naya Raipur said – “We are fortunate that the Hon’ble Minister has shown his support to this new Institution. We hope to attract the best minds from India and abroad to leverage our presence in the knowledge hub i.e. Naya Raipur. We take pride in providing young students from Chhattisgarh and surrounding regions with an Institute with world class amenities.
