On the occasion of U.S. President Barack Obama’s historic visit to India for India’s 66th Republic Day, Dechert LLP and Thomson Reuters, with the support of the American Bar Association (ABA) India Committee and the U.S.-India Business Council, will be hosting an afternoon tea discussion to stimulate a vibrant and dynamic partnership between the United States and India. The ABA India Committee is comprised of 300+ lawyers from both the United States and India. Their views on key policy reforms to stimulate “Cross-Border Deals & The Indian Entrepreneurial Ecosystem” will be shared with attendees by Panel Moderator, Asma Chandani of Dechert LLP, Chair of the ABA India Policy & Rule of Law Committees.

Manoj Kohli, Managing Director at Bharti Enterprises Limited, is responsible for the growth and operations of the Bharti group of companies – retail, insurance, financial services, agri-products, real estate, mobile internet, etc. Throughout his 35 years of work experience, he has spent time in Michigan, Austria, Tokyo, Shanghai, Manila, Singapore, Hong Kong and 20 countries in Africa in addition to all regions in India.
Shankar Narayanan, Managing Director, Carlyle India
Shankar Narayanan is a Managing Director with the Asia Growth Capital team of global private equity fund The Carlyle Group, where he is responsible for advising growth capital investments in India. Mr. Narayanan has been in private equity since 1993 and has on-the-ground work experience across the country, which allows him to have a very practical perspective of growth prospects and challenges across industries.
Panel Moderator Asma Chandani is a leading U.S. funds and corporate lawyer at Dechert LLP and Chair of the ABA India Policy & Rule of Law Committees. Ms. Chandani represents clients in matters involving investment activities and business operations in India. Over the past decade, Ms. Chandani has counseled prominent investment funds and corporations on their inbound investments into India, in aggregate excess of USD$1 billion. Ms. Chandani serves as an advisory board member of Billion Dollar Babies, which aims to create enabling circumstances for Indian companies to achieve an enterprise value of > USD$1 billion.
