New Delhi, Delhi, India, Thursday, November 10, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- Preparing the youth for creating a green future for the present and future generations is a responsibility of academic institutions, especially those engaged in professional education and research. TERI University has this year adopted the theme, "Innovate, Educate and Entertain incorporating" for its s annual cultural extravaganza "Aahvaan 2011", which was inaugurated today by Prof Bakshi Bhavik, Vice Chancellor, TERI University. It is a three day long festival starting today seeing participation from over 2000 students across 25 colleges.

"The students have played an important role in promoting the green concept on the campus. Only by doing this can we consolidate the fame we've earned in environment protection", Prof Bakshi Bhavik, Vice Chancellor, TERI University, said at the opening ceremony of the annual campus festival.

The annual cultural fest came into existence in the year 2009 and for the last two years, the students of the university have put up a successful show every year. It provides a platform for students from all over the country to showcase their skills, talent and wit! Last year saw participation from all the way down south through central India and up north. From business schools to under-graduate colleges of Delhi, students from more than 25 colleges were seen around the campus participating in a large range of events. The events are conceptualized keeping the spirit of the University in mind. Events comprise both technical and cultural events.

The technical aspect of the fest comprises of events such as Reverse Engineering - Kabaad se Jugaad, Block n Tackle, Debate, Quiz. The highlight of the show is Panel Discussion which sees eminent personalities from various backgrounds discussing a current issue.

Kabaad se Jugaad: A 'best-out-of-waste' competition designed to challenge creative minds to manage waste. This contest showcased Reverse Engineering - innovation challenge - at its best. The event was not an engineering event but it was based on the format where anybody using intuitive skills can breakthrough and reformulate a new set of convention for a system.

The cultural events comprise of events like Nukkad Natak (street play), Mudra (Indian classical dance), Dhwani (Indian vocals), Groove (Choreography), Crescendo (Western acoustic), Focus (photography), Rhythm street (rock show) etc. This year we are also introducing Gaming and Paper Presentation Competition. Apart from these the fest also sees small events like Face painting, Rangoli designing etc.

As part of the cultural festival, the students group at TERI University is launching a signature campaign to save our planet. This three day event is a curtain raiser to Durban Summit (COP 17) starting from November 28, 2011, were whole world come into one roof to save planet earth.

"It's a good opportunity to educate students and community around to save planet earth, said Prof Bakshi Bhavik. We should not use the plastic bags, save water and adopt low carbon lifestyle. And this becomes a new trend on campus as universities and colleges are big energy consumers."

TERI University has taken to help fight climate change, ranging from the use of solar panels, solar heating system, and energy-efficient air conditioning system to a water harvesting system, which helps the university save almost 40% energy consumed, according to Prof Bakshi.

The water recycling system, which was designed to reclaim rain water and waste water collected from bathrooms and reuse the water in flushing the toilets and watering the gardens and lawns, saves again upto 40% water in the campus, and contributes to recharging the groundwater in the vicinity.
