Gurgaon, Haryana, India, Tuesday, June 28, 2011 -- (Business Wire India) -- Institute for Supply Management (ISM) USA, the largest supply management association in the world, has recently set up its affiliate in India. It is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to lead supply management in 75 countries. It has 40,000 members worldwide. By executing and extending its mission through education, research, standards of excellence, influence building and information dissemination-ISM continues to extend the global impact of supply management.
ISM USA was set up in 1915 and has affiliates in Japan, South Korea, China, Philippines and Bangladesh. ISM offers credentialing to professionals around the world with the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) qualification. ISM-India is headed by Krishan K. Batra who has worked with private and public sectors including United Nations in 45 countries in handling Supply Chain Management (SCM) activities. ISM-India is presently having chapters in Gurgaon (Delhi-NCR) and Bengaluru. It has plans to extend its chapters in all industrial cities of India.
Worldwide, supply chain costs contribute to more than 20 percent of a product cost, thus mandating efficiency. SCM efficiency has been identified as the driver of profitability in retail and manufacturing with benefits accruing to consumers.
The supply profession continues to change, expand, grow and evolve at an accelerating rate. Today's dynamic times provide opportunities for new and better strategies, tools and practices which in turn, cultivate more complex supply professionals and companies. The ongoing development and sophistication of this field of supply management requires a periodic look at the dimensions of supply to understand how it is being practiced and influenced, and how supply impacts results and performance across the enterprise and the supply chain.
