India to DIREC International Renewables Development
New Delhi, Delhi, India, Wednesday, October 06, 2010 -- (Business Wire India) -- India, the world's largest developing developed economy is today recognized as the epicenter of progressive initiatives across sectors. Having played a catalyst for spearheading such initiatives, India is all set to host the DIREC 2010 (DELHI INTERNATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY CONFERENCE 2010) from 27th to 29th October 2010 on the theme of "Upscaling and Mainstreaming Renewables for Energy Security, Climate Change and Economic Development."
As per Mr. Deepak Gupta, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, "DIREC is expected to turn around a representation of more than 50 countries and over 600 exhibitors. This is going to be India's largest ever B2B exhibition ever held on Renewable Energies." Sharing about the participations at DIREC he also added "We are also holding a separate CEO roundtable for a high level representation of the companies worldwide to seek the business perspective for the development of renewables worldwide. Some of the distinguished names in business representation would include names like TERI, GE Energy, ACME Tele Power, Honeywell, Uni-Solar, Suzlon etc. who would also deliberate policy discussions to scale up the growth in this sector."
These conferences over the years have fostered the scaling up and development of renewables with a healthy participation from all over world. DIREC 2010 is a stepping stone in this series of international conferences on renewable energy which begun at Bonn in 2004. Over the years the conference has successfully achieved the participation of high level stakeholders from policy, business, science and civil society. Even this time DIREC is staged to witness a strong participation of Energy Ministers from more than 40 countries with more than 9000 delegates and 250 speakers over the three days conference and other simultaneous events.
The International Advisory Committee and Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN 21) Secretariat have formulated the conference framework for DIREC. This framework would essentially focus on:
1) Policy efforts to encourage and enable renewables scale up.
2) Mobilizing finance for Renewable Energy innovation and deployment
3) Benefits of collaboration, synergies, and knowledge sharing at the international level to scale up Renewable Energy
4) Link from Copenhagen to Cancun via DIREC
Ms.Gauri Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy shared "We are highly elated with the overwhelming response to the conference from all over world. Continuing further in the series, DIREC 2010 would look forward to propel the use of renewables through a political declaration / a concrete plan of action on the road ahead." "Besides this the event is also aimed to serve as a strong linking pin and input to the Climate Change Summit slated to be held in Cancun in Mexico later this year" she added.
A series of 35 official side events and parallel workshops are also being organized alongside the ministerial conference. Aimed at enhancing participants' capacities and knowledge across DIREC's thematic areas, these events will delve deeper into issues addressed at the conference from policy perspective only.
Some of the other key meetings planned alongside DIREC are:
1) 8th Renewable Energy and Distribution Generation Task Force Meeting of Asia-Pacific Partnership (APP) on Clean Development and Climate
2) International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC) and UN Secretary General's High Level Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change
DIREC 2010 will also see launch of a pledge programme - Delhi International Programme (DIAP) as part of its strategic events, which will be a joint effort of the Government of India and REN21 to stimulate and reward voluntary action on Renewables.
With continuous deliberations, Renewable Energy has become a viable option in India with special attention to the development in this sector. Today India has got the highest potential for the effective use of the renewable sources of energy. Indian in its endeavor to promote renewables has become world's fifth largest producer of wind power after Denmark, Germany, Spain and USA. Besides wind power India has also taken strides in other renewables like bio-gas, geo-thermal, hydro power and solar energy. Thus the gradual shift to renewables will not only help us meet the increasing demand for energy but will also reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and its negative impact on climate.
